Development history
The museum was established in November 1989. It was prepared by sun Guobao, Liu Longhai and Chen Zoe. The preparation process was supported and guided by Suzhou Materials Bureau, Culture Bureau and Suzhou Coin Society.

The building area of Suzhou National Treasure coin museum is nearly 400 square meters, and the main exhibition area is 180 square meters. The museum is going to open a new site to build a new museum with certain scale and characteristics.
The Museum once held a display of Chinese coins of all ages, which is the basic display of the museum. The contents of the display are all kinds of coins of all ages according to the historical development of money.
The earliest currency on display in the national treasure coin museum is a kind of "shell", which is called "shell coin". Later, due to economic development, shell coins were not enough to use, and imitated shell coins of bone, jade and copper appeared, which were used until the Warring States period. There are various kinds of shell coins on display.
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, there were four kinds of metal coins, including cloth, knife, round and ant nose money. Their shapes are respectively taken from the original farm tools, cutters, spinning wheels and natural shellfish. The display of Wu wenkong Shouda cloth, the word "Yi" Kong Shoubu, the word "Anyi Erqiao", the word "Shu Bu dangqiao", the word "Qi Hui Bang Chang FA Hua" Dao, the word "Qi Fa Hua" Dao, the word "Yuan" and "Gong" Yuan Qian, the word "Xing" Jin "Yi Bi Qian are very precious.
Collection
The museum has a collection of more than 7000 pieces, including shell money, cloth money, knife money, round money, ant nose money, square hole round money, machine-made money, paper money, commemorative money (seal) and some foreign currencies. Materials are gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum, lead, nickel, paper, etc. Among them, the first collection of about 1400 coins was donated by sun Guobao.
