It is the former site of the battlefield hospital set up by Dr. Bethune when he took part in the Qihui campaign during the Anti Japanese war. At the end of 1938, the 120th division of the Eighth Route Army, under the leadership of division commander he long, set out from Lan county, Luliang Prefecture, Western Shanxi Province and settled in huibokou District, Hejian County, Hebei Province. In cooperation with the troops of the central Hebei military region, it skillfully attacked the Japanese invaders with flexible tactics. They smashed the enemy's three, four and five "sieges" in a row. On April 18, 1939, it was transferred to Qihui area in the northeast of Hejian county. After three days and nights of fighting, a total of more than 700 people from Yoshida brigade of the 27th division of the Japanese army were annihilated. The field hospital, located in a small temple in tunzhuang, is only one in width and depth. Dr. Bethune kept on working here until the battle was over. During his stay in tunzhuang, in addition to rescuing the wounded, he also enthusiastically treated the local people, helped them work, and formed deep friendship with them. The temple is still well preserved.
