Jiaohe City, belonging to Jilin City, Jilin Province, is located in the east of Jilin Province, at the West foot of Changbai Mountain, adjacent to Dunhua City in the East, Huadian City in the south, Fengman District and Longtan District of Jilin City across Songhua Lake in the west, Shulan city and Wuchang City of Heilongjiang Province in the north, with a total area of 6364.15 square kilometers.
Jiaohe is rich in resources. Two thirds of Songhua Lake is located in Jiaohe, with total water resources of 1.95 billion cubic meters and forest coverage rate of 63.9%. There are 43 kinds of proven mineral resources and granite reserves of more than 10 billion cubic meters. Changbai Mountain is rich in edible fungi, wild vegetables, Chinese herbal medicine, forest frog and other special resources, enjoying the reputation of "the hometown of black fungus in China". LAFA mountain is a national AAAA scenic spot Home forest park covers the whole territory.

By the end of 2017, Jiaohe City had a total population of 425353 thousand, with a GDP of 18.43 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 3.35 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 7.28 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 7.8 billion yuan. The city's per capita GDP is 42887 yuan. The ratio of three industrial structures of national economy is 18.2:39.5:42.3.

Historical evolution
Origin of place names
It is said that a long time ago, there was a big river across here. There was a dragon in the river, so people named the river Jiaohe. This is the name of the county.
History of construction
The ancient sites excavated from Jiaohe City show that as early as 3000 years ago, there were people gathering and living on this land.
In the early Sui and Tang Dynasties, the county was subordinate to the Ministry of Pei, and in the later period it was subordinate to the Bohai State.
In Liao Dynasty, it belonged to Dongdan state first, and then to Changbai Mountain.
In the Jin Dynasty, it was subordinate to Shangjing road and Hailan road. In the Ming Dynasty, it was subordinate to Nur gandu.
In the Qing Dynasty, it was subordinate to the general's office in Jilin Province. In the first year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty (1736), Jilin vice Dutong set up the zuoling yamen (abolished in the 18th year of the Republic of China) in ermuhe Solow station to manage some stations in Ermu, Dunhua and Wuchang.
In 1882, after the establishment of Dunhua County, zhangguangcailing was subordinate to Dunhua county to the East and Jilin prefecture to the West.
On June 2, 1909, the first year of Xuantong (1909), according to the request of Xiliang, governor of the three eastern provinces, the establishment of Ermu county was approved, and the county government was set at ermusoro station.
In February 1910, the first county magistrate, Wang Quan, was under the jurisdiction of Dongnan Road, Jilin Province.
In 1914, it was subordinate to Yanji Road in Jilin Province.
In 1929, the Taoist system was abolished and directly belonged to Jilin Province.
In 1931, after the September 18th Incident, Jiaohe became a puppet ruled area.
In January 1932, the government of Ermu county changed its name to Ermu County Office, directly under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province.
In November 1933, the puppet County Office moved from emusuo to Jiaohe street.
In October 1939, Ermu county was renamed Jiaohe county.
On August 15, 1945, Jiaohe was liberated. In November of the same year, Jiaohe County democratic government was established, which is subordinate to Yongji District of Jilin Province.
In February 1946, it belonged to Jidong District of Jilin Province.
In May 1948, it was under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province.
In September 1958, it belonged to Jilin City. In February 1966, it was subordinate to Yongji district. In June 1969, the city was merged with the prefecture, and it was subordinate to Jilin City.
On August 15, 1989, with the approval of the State Council, the county system was abolished and Jiaohe City was established.

Division evolution
In 1950, Jiaohe renamed each district according to its ordinal number, which was divided into 16 districts. On September 12, 1954, 14 districts (one or three districts) were abolished and divided into 42 administrative villages.
In October 1954, Xinzhan village was changed into Xinzhan town. After the adjustment, the county has jurisdiction over two districts, one town and 41 villages.
In April 1955, Jiaohe County People's government was renamed Jiaohe County People's Committee. Districts and towns were renamed people's committees.
In June 1955, the first district was renamed Jiaohe town. In July, Songhua village was abolished. Forty villages in the county were converted into townships. After the adjustment, the county governs 1 mining area (Naizishan), 2 towns and 40 townships.
In 1956, the mining area was changed into Naizishan town. In August 1958, 40 townships were merged into 15 townships.
On October 1, 1958, three towns and 15 townships were renamed 18 operation areas. On October 23, Jiaohe county was put under the jurisdiction of Jilin City.
In April 1959, 18 working areas were renamed 18 communes.
On January 10, 1966, Yongji special district was established, which put Jiaohe County under the jurisdiction of Jilin City under the jurisdiction of Yongji special district.
On March 5, 1967, the Jiaohe county Party committee and the county people's Committee stopped working, and the county production headquarters was established by the county Armed Forces Department to exercise the functions and powers of the government. In the same month, 18 communes successively set up production command groups.
In February 1968, Jiaohe County People's Committee was abolished and Jiaohe County Revolutionary Committee was established. Since then, 18 commune production groups have set up commune revolutionary committees.
On February 23, 1969, Yongji district was abolished and Jiaohe county was changed into a county under the jurisdiction of Jilin City.
In March 1979, Jiaohe and Naizishan communes were transformed into Jiaohe and Naizishan revolutionary committees. Xinzhan commune formed Xinzhan town Revolutionary Committee and set up suburban commune. So far, there are 20 communities and towns in the county.
In October 1980, Jiaohe County Revolutionary Committee was abolished and Jiaohe County People's government was established. In December, Jiaohe county had jurisdiction over three towns, 17 communes, 242 production teams and 1454 production teams.
In July 1983, the government and society were separated, and the county had jurisdiction over three towns, 16 townships and one suburban commune. In the same year, hengdaozi commune was renamed piaohe township.
In February 1984, Zhenjiao commune was incorporated into Jiaohe town. In December of the same year, the three townships of Tiangang, Baishishan and piaohe were changed into three towns of Tiangang, Baishishan and piaohe.
In March 1985, Xinzhan township was merged into Xinzhan town. So far, the county has jurisdiction over 6 towns and 12 townships.
On January 16, 1987, with the approval of Jilin Provincial People's government, huangsongdian township of Jiaohe county was cancelled. Huangsongdian town was established.
On September 16, 1988, with the approval of the people's Government of Jilin Province, niuzishan town of Jiaohe county was abolished and its jurisdiction was merged into Jiaohe town.
On September 28, 1989, the people's Government of Jilin Province informed that with the approval of the State Council, Jiaohe county was approved to be abolished. The establishment of Jiaohe City (county level) is directly under the provincial government. After the establishment of Jiaohe City, it will be temporarily managed by Jilin City.
On December 23, 1989, with the approval of the people's Government of Jilin Province, Jiaohe town of Jiaohe City was abolished and five sub district offices, namely, Minzhu, Chang'an, Henan, Zhonggang and Naizishan, were set up.
On November 21, 1992, with the approval of the people's Government of Jilin Province, Songjiang, Tianbei and LAFA townships of Jiaohe City were abolished and Songjiang, Tianbei and LAFA towns were established.
In December 1995, Jiaohe City had jurisdiction over 5 sub district offices, 8 towns and 8 townships, 129 residents' committees and 258 villagers' committees.
On October 29, 1997, with the approval of the people's Government of Jilin Province, Tuanjie village, dehegou village, Xinmin village, Xianfeng village, Xihuangdi village and Xintun village in Chishui township of Jiaohe City were included in the urban area of Jiaohe City; meanwhile, the villages under the jurisdiction of the sub district offices of Jiaohe City were adjusted.
On March 12, 1998, with the approval of Jilin provincial government, Tiannan township of Jiaohe City was abolished and Qingling town was established.

Songhua River and Mudanjiang River system run through Jiaohe City. Two thirds of Songhua Lake water area is located in Jiaohe City, with a flow area of 2426 square kilometers.
