Legend of Longjing tea
It is said that there was a desolate village in Longjing mountain a long time ago. There was an old woman who lived in a broken hut and lived by picking the tender leaves of 18 tea trees planted behind the hut. She is good for the people. The party cooks tea at the gate for the tea pickers to drink.
One day, an old man with white beard came to the village. When he was drinking tea at the door, he saw a broken mortar abandoned in the corner of her house. He recognized it as a priceless treasure and wanted to buy it. Mother in law said: "old mortar is useless. If you like it, just move it."
The old man couldn't move the mortar himself, so he went down the mountain to find someone to move it. He didn't want the old lady to be kind again. When he saw that he wanted the mortar, he washed it clean and buried the rotten soil behind the house under 18 tea trees. When the old man came back with his servants, he saw that the stone mortar had been washed clean. He was so shocked that he didn't want it. He sighed and went down the mountain.
It turns out that the stone mortar is not a treasure, but the rotten soil on its surface is priceless. The eighteen tea trees behind the old woman's house grew luxuriantly after being fertilized by rotten soil. The tea made from the tender buds of these trees has a unique fragrance, which is the top of all tea. These trees are the ancestors of Longjing tea.
It is said that when Emperor Qianlong went down to the south of the Yangtze River, he came to the foot of Shifeng mountain in Longjing, Hangzhou, to see the local women picking tea to show his appreciation of the people's feelings. On that day, Emperor Qianlong saw several village girls picking tea in front of more than ten shady tea pods. He was very happy and learned to pick tea. Just picked one, suddenly the eunuch came to report: "the Empress Dowager is ill, please hurry back to Beijing." When Emperor Qianlong heard that the Empress Dowager was ill, he put a handful of tea into the bag and rushed back to the capital day and night.
As a matter of fact, the Empress Dowager was not seriously ill because she had eaten too much delicacies and seafood. For a moment, her liver fire rose, her eyes were red and swollen, and her stomach was unwell. At this time, seeing the emperor's son coming, he felt a fragrance coming and asked what good things he had brought. The emperor also wondered, where did the fragrance come from? He touched it casually. Ah, it turned out to be a handful of tea from Shifeng mountain in Hangzhou. After a few days, it had dried, and the strong aroma was coming out. The Empress Dowager wanted to taste the tea. The palace maid made the tea and sent it to the Empress Dowager. As expected, it was fragrant. After the Empress Dowager took a sip, her eyes became more comfortable. After drinking the tea, the redness and swelling disappeared and her stomach did not swell. The Empress Dowager said happily, "the tea from Longjing in Hangzhou is really a panacea." Emperor Qianlong was so happy to see the Empress Dowager that he immediately sent an order to seal the 18 tea trees in front of the Hugong temple at the foot of Shifeng mountain in Longjing, Hangzhou, as imperial tea. Every year, he picked new tea to pay tribute to the Empress Dowager. So far, the 18 imperial teas are still preserved in front of Hugong temple in Longjing Village, Hangzhou. Many tourists to Hangzhou have made a special trip to visit and take photos.
Another legend about Longjing tea is that one year Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty went down to Jiangnan and came to the Hugong temple at shizifeng near Longjing Village to have a rest. The monks in the temple served local famous tea. Qianlong was good at tea ceremony. When he saw the tea, he couldn't help but exclaim. In the porcelain bowl as white as jade, pieces of tender tea were like tongue, dark green in color, and fragrant in the blue liquid. He tasted a mouthful of it, but he felt that his cheeks were fragrant and had an indescribable effect. So Qianlong summoned the monk and asked, "what's the name of this tea? Where did it come from? " The monk replied, "tell the emperor, this is the Longjing tea produced in the temple." When Qianlong walked out of the temple, he saw that the front of Hugong temple was as green as dye. Eighteen tea trees sprouted at the beginning, green and green. The surrounding mountains were like a lion. At this time, Qianlong Longxin was very happy. The famous tea is Longjing, and the famous mountain is Shifeng, which seems to be a sign of his great achievements. Moreover, eighteen is a lucky figure. And the tea was really pleasing to the eye, mellow and refreshing, so Qianlong granted the 18 tea trees in front of Hugong temple as "imperial tea".
Since then, Longjing tea has gained a great reputation.
