Qiaoqiao Village
Qiaocun is located 4 km north of Xiaonanhai Town, 6 km away from Xiaonanhai scenic spot. It is named after the wind and rain covered covered bridges on nearby streams. The village is surrounded by the boundary of Hubei Province. Qiaoqiao village is close to mountains and rivers, with pleasant ecology. Two Xianyan towering behind the village, the main peak of 1482 meters above sea level, the mountain shade blots out the sun, the mountain springs and streams down. The serpentine River in front of the village is clear all year round, and ducks and geese paddle in it. The land on both sides is crisscrossed, forming a quiet pastoral landscape.
Hundreds of ancient Liquidambar trees surround the bridge village, hiding the village in the trees. These ancient Liquidambar formosana trees are four or five hundred years old. They are vigorous and green, strong and straight. The big tree path needs two or three people to embrace. In summer, the maple trees are lush and green, while in autumn, the red leaves are like fire, and the layers of forest are all dyed, which brings a very different scenery to qiaoliang village. At the same time, these ancient trees are also the witness of the bridge villagers' respect for Nature: it is said that during the period of "great steel smelting" and "great collective", when the nearby water reservoir was built, they were prepared to cut down these big trees, but the villagers held the big trees firmly and refused to destroy them, which made this maple forest escape several disasters and survive today.
The village is connected with Shepan River by a unique and magnificent Fengyu bridge. Tujia people like to build wind and rain covered bridges with top cover and railings, which have many functions such as crossing the river to avoid rain and shade. Qiaocun Fengyu bridge is 78 meters long, 4.6 meters wide and 17.5 meters high. It is of all wood structure, with cornices on the top of three pavilions and small green tiles on five floors. There are wooden benches on both sides of the bridge deck for rest. Sitting or walking on the wind and rain bridge, enjoying the stream and the breeze, it's very comfortable.
Through the Fengyu bridge, through the maple forest, the bridge village is in front of us. The houses in the village are stacked in layers with rigorous structure and well arranged. The most prominent feature of the bridge village is the large-scale hanging foot buildings. The whole village consists of 17 main buildings and 6 courtyard dams, covering an area of more than 10000 square meters. Diaojiaolou has a variety of shapes, such as fully closed quadrangle or semi closed. The floors range from the first floor to the third floor. It is full of wood structure. All the joints are made of wood wedges, and there is no metal nail, which fully reflects the architectural art of Tujia folk houses. Most of the suspended parts are stockyards, with people living in the middle. Food and forage are stored upstairs. The courtyard and dam are all paved with bluestone slabs, which is not only a place for drying grain, but also a place for villagers to rest and entertainment.
Tujia people like to live in Diaojiaolou, which is closely related to their natural environment: firstly, it is located in Wuling mountain area, with steep terrain, and most houses are built on the mountain. In order to avoid huge foundation works, some houses are suspended, with corridors and railings on them, which is beautiful and practical; secondly, the subtropical humid monsoon climate makes it rich in heat, abundant in rainfall, and many animals and plants Diaojiaolou is conducive to the drainage of rainwater, damp proof, to avoid the invasion of insects, snakes and beasts.
Qiaoqiao village has nearly 40 households and more than 100 people, most of them are Tujia, and a few of them are Miao. In the special living environment, the simple villagers have inherited their ancestors' ability to sing and dance, and retained their unique customs.
