brief introduction
Yushan Park, founded on April 10, 1985, covers a total area of 105491 hectares, covering the administrative areas of Nantou County, Jiayi County, Kaohsiung City and Hualien County. Located in the central part of Taiwan Island, the park has a unique geographical location, with towering peaks and majestic scenery. It is one of the few areas in Taiwan where the original scenery is still preserved. It includes the first peak in Northeast Asia, the main peak of Yushan Mountain at an altitude of 3952 meters. The main peak is adjacent to the area with high mountains and deep valleys. The natural vegetation varies with the altitude, from subtropical zone, temperate zone to frigid zone. The forest facies changes in the second place, and wild animals breed. It also has the historical relic of the Qing Dynasty, the ancient Batongguan road. Therefore, there are many precious ecological resources and cultural historical sites in the region.
name
Yushan is the holy mountain of the Bunun ethnic group in Taiwan, which is called pattonkan in Zou language. In the annals of Taiwan, which was compiled in the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it is recorded that "Yushan is in Fengshan county. The mountain is very high, covered with clouds and fog. Sometimes the weather is bright, and all the stones are white in the distance. It is called Yushan. " It can be seen that Yushan, as a Han name, has begun to circulate. In addition, Cao nationality, another Aboriginal people living under Yushan, calls Yushan pangunorakaso, which means "quartz mountain", because the snow on the top of the mountain shines like quartz glass in winter. For the west, Yushan was first recorded in the literature in 1857. When an American merchant ship, USS Alexander, left Anping port at that time, W. Morrison, the captain of the ship, saw the towering Yushan and recorded it in the log book. Therefore, there was Mount Morrison( Mt.Morrison )This title is widely used in western countries. In 1895, because of the defeat of the Qing Dynasty, Taiwan signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki and ceded it to Japan, which made Yushan under the jurisdiction of Japan. The Japanese who came to Taiwan found that Yushan was higher than Mount Fuji (3776 meters above sea level), the first peak of Japan. Therefore, the Meiji emperor called on the emperor on June 28, 1897 to rename mount Morison as a new high mountain (にいたかやま), which means the new peak of Japanese territory, and set up Shinto temples on the top of the mountain. In addition, in 1923, the snow mountain was also named subalpine, which means the second peak.
According to the tradition of the Japanese Navy, heavy cruisers have always been named after Yama, so there are also warships named "new high" in the joint fleet of the Japanese Navy. According to the rumor, Yushan is the new high mountain in the code "ニイタカヤマノレレレ" (climbing the new high mountain, 1208) which ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 2, 1941. However, there was no word "new high mountain" in the naval communication symbol list at that time, so whether the story is true or not has not been confirmed.
After the Second World War, "the Republic of China" took over Taiwan and changed its name from xingaoshan to Yushan on December 1, 1947.
history
Yushan area was designated as the "new high and Alishan National Park" by the "National Park committee" of Taiwan's "governor's office" as early as the Japanese occupation period. However, at that time, the Pacific War broke out, and the plan was not put into practice. It was only at the stage of investigation and research. Until the end of the war, according to the "comprehensive development plan of Taiwan region", Yushan area was designated as the "national" Park reservation area; after the "Executive Yuan" of the Taiwan authorities entrusted the "Academia Sinica" to carry out investigation, and invited experts and scholars to the scene to investigate and determine the scope of Yushan park area; after comprehensive analysis and research, the "Ministry of the interior" of the Taiwan authorities began to work in the area The investigation of ecological and human resources is entrusted to the relevant departments of Taiwan University and the Taiwan authorities for deliberation on the geographical topography, animals, plants, recreation and cultural and historical resources, and actively carry out the planning of regional resources and land use.
plan
Starting from sandiaojiao in the north and Pingdong plain in the south, it is about 300 km long. Yushan, the main peak, is located 2.3km north of the Tropic of cancer with an altitude of 3997m. It is not only the highest peak in Taiwan, but also the highest peak in eastern China. There are many forests in the mountain area, with primitive forest distribution, and abundant plant resources for timber, medicine and chemical industry. Yushan park is located in the central area of Taiwan, where there are more than 30 peaks.
It spans Nantou, Jiayi, Hualien and Kaohsiung, covering a total area of about 105490 hectares. It is a typical subtropical high mountain with high mountains and valleys. In addition to the rich geographical landscape in the high mountains and valleys, it also creates the most precious resource treasure and ecological environment, hoping for a sustainable life and maintaining the original style. Mountaineers should give full play to their environmental protection and the love of their descendants and cherish the nature.

Two mountains
Yushan Park covers two major mountain ranges in Taiwan: the main mountain range of Yushan Mountain range and the southern part of central mountain range. There are 30 famous peaks in the area. Among them, 11 belong to Yushan Mountain range and 19 belong to central mountain range.
Yushan peaks are centered on the main peak of Yushan. They are composed of Yushan north peak, Yushan East peak, Yushan south peak, Yushan West Peak, Yushan front peak, dongxiaonanshan, nanyushan, Lushan and other mountains in Taiwan. The main peak of Yushan is majestic and magnificent, with precipitous cliffs on all sides, steep cliffs on both sides, deep ravines on the West and steep gravel slopes on the East. Yushan Mountain stands in the sky. Regardless of the mountain appearance or the mountain situation, it has the respect of the emperor. In addition to being the first of the five mountains and the king of the hundred mountains in Taiwan, what's more important is that the peak area of Yushan Mountain contains precious life treasures. There are different climate types in subtropical zone, warm temperate zone, cold temperate zone and alpine cold zone, which have derived a variety of animal species and plant forest facies, and the ecological resources are quite rich.
The surrounding area of Yushan peaks has been designated as one of the special landscape areas of Yushan Park established on April 10, 1985, which is the largest of the eight special landscape areas in the park. The new central part traverses the highway and passes through the tatajia saddle of Yushan peaks. There is also a large rest area in the area. In addition to providing rest for passers-by, the rest area is suitable for the main peak of Yushan Mountain It is one of the most popular places for sightseeing. Generally, there are two routes to climb Yushan Mountain. The Tata plus Anbu line on the west side is the most popular route, and the Batongguan line on the east side is also used. However, it is often used as another choice for climbing from Tata plus to the mountain and not to go down the same road. The mountaineers have climbed along the routes of Wanshan and Nanyu mountain in Guangdong in Nanling, or shalixianxi forest road and beiyushan mountain in Beiling. Yushan Mountain often snows in winter, and some mountain friends follow Deep snow or ice hard sword ditch to climb up with ice. There is a paiyun mountain villa hotel in the Anbu mountain depression between the main peak and the West peak of Yushan. However, due to the large number of people climbing Yushan, the limited capacity and hinterland of the villa, it is not difficult to climb Yushan in natural conditions, but more difficult to get beds.
