Introduction to Confucius Temple
Confucius Temple is located in Zuoying District of Kaohsiung City, on the North Bank of Lianchi pond outside the north gate of the old city of Zuoying. It was built by the municipal government in 1974, following the style of Confucius Temple in Song Dynasty and the configuration of Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province. The scale of this Confucius Temple is the largest in the province, and its architectural style is majestic and solemn.
As early as the early Qing Dynasty, the temple was built by Yang Fangsheng, the county magistrate, in 1684. Later, due to the damage of wind and rain, it was built in the reign of Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Guangxu, and finally formed a complete scale. The middle is Dacheng hall, the left and right are the East and West verandas, the front door is Dacheng gate, and the back is Chongsheng temple.
The whole school palace has a circumference of more than 122 Zhang. It can be said that the system is all ready and the scale is grand. It was completed in 1976, with an extraordinary momentum of water on the back of the mountain. The architectural style refers to the shape of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province and the scale of Taihe hall in the Forbidden City. It is solemn and grand, fully expressing the respect for the most saints and ancestors. There is an arch bridge in the square outside the Confucius Temple. Beside the bridge is a copper wall relief depicting the deeds of Confucius.
The Confucius Temple was first built in 1684, and only Chongsheng temple is preserved in the original building. The new Kaohsiung Confucian temple was rebuilt in 1977. It is located on the northwest Bank of Lianchi lake. The overall architectural style is the Song Dynasty Confucian temple style and the configuration of Qufu Confucian temple in Shandong Province. It has the characteristics and culture of Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties. Its total area is the largest Confucian Temple in Taiwan.
The Confucius Temple is majestic and elegant. It is divided into Dacheng hall, Wenchang temple, Minglun hall and academy. It is facing the square. On the right side is the Lingxing gate, and on the left side is a small arch bridge. Beside the bridge is a copper wall relief depicting the deeds of Confucius, the most sage and forefather, with four characters of "Wanren palace wall". Looking to the east from the Confucius Temple, you can see that the left wall of the temple looks like a jagged mountain cut by a knife. This is Banping mountain, which is famous for its peculiar shape.
