Tianhou palace in Anping
Tianhou temple in Anping is located in Anping District, Tainan City, Taiwan. According to the old local records, the temple was originally called "Tianfei Palace". It was originally located at the ferry of Anping town (now Shimen elementary school in Anping District). During the Japanese occupation period, because the original site was rebuilt into a primary school, the statues in the temple had to be sent to other temples temporarily. It was not until 1962 that the temple was rebuilt on the former site of Shuishi Yamen in the Qing Dynasty.
evolution
The Empress Dowager palace in Anping was built in 1668, the 22nd year of the Ming Dynasty, according to the records of ancestral temples in Tainan. It is dedicated to the statue of Mazu who came to Taiwan with Zheng Jun. During the Japanese occupation period, because the temple was the place where the Japanese army killed, the incense in the temple gradually faded. Later, because the original site was changed to a primary school, the statues in the temple could only be sent to other places temporarily until it was rebuilt in 1962. After that, the temple continued to expand. It was completed in 1978, but it caught fire in 1990. However, three Matsu statues survived. It was built again and completed in 1994.
Architecture
The main building of the temple is a reinforced concrete structure built in 1962, which faces southeast from northwest. The roof of Sanchuan hall is the top of Xieshan mountain with double eaves and paved with green glazed tiles. A pair of stone lions are set in front of the temple and at the entrance.
The statue
The three statues of Mazu in the main hall are soft bodied statues, about four feet high, with Meizhou hair in a bun and three inch Golden Lotus. They have a peaceful appearance, and the front feet of their seats are of the Song Dynasty type, which is quite precious
