Landing point of liberation Wanshan Islands
The landing site of liberation Wanshan islands is located in diaotang Bay, Guishan Island, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai.
In the early morning of May 25, 1950, the battle of liberation of Wanshan islands began. The Chinese people's Liberation Army's "Guishan" and other warships rushed into the garbage tail enemy ship anchorage, and engaged in close combat with more than 30 KMT second fleet and Wanshan patrol fleet for one day and night. The "Guishan" was destroyed by the enemy. The captain Guo Qinglong decided to lead his officers and fighters to forcibly land in diaotong Bay and continue to fight with the enemy until he died bravely.
In February 1954, to commemorate the martyrs of "Guishan", Zhuhai County People's Committee engraved "heroic landing site of Guishan" on the stone wall of the landing battle site, and changed the name of garbage tail island to "Guishan Island".
In 1963, a memorial to the martyrs of the Guishan warship was built on a nearby hillside for later generations to remember and look forward to.
In 1986, the landing site of the liberated Wanshan islands was designated as a municipal key cultural relics protection unit by Zhuhai Municipal People's government.
