Liaocheng China Canal Culture Museum has a building area of 16000 square meters and a display area of nearly 7000 square meters. The name of the museum was inscribed by Mr. Fei Xiaotong, a famous sociologist, anthropologist and former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The museum has five floors, one underground and four above ground. It is divided into three functional areas: exhibition area, collection area, research and academic exchange area.
The overall display of Liaocheng China canal culture museum takes "the canal promotes history, and the canal changes life" as the theme. It aims to collect, protect and study the canal culture from an all-round and multi angle, and reflect and display the ancient history, natural features and folk customs of the canal. The basic exhibitions are "canal culture exhibition" and "Liaocheng historical relics exhibition".
Construction background
Liaocheng is one of the important cities along the canal, Liaocheng and the canal have a continuous historical origin. The Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal excavated in the Sui Dynasty passes through the west side of Liaocheng. Huitong River in Yuan Dynasty ran through the hinterland of Liaocheng, which brought Liaocheng hundreds of years of economic and cultural prosperity and accumulated rich canal cultural resources.
In order to inherit and carry forward the excellent history and culture of the canal, Liaocheng proposed to build the Canal Museum during the Eighth Five Year Plan period, and included the Canal Museum in the eighth five year plan, and then successively included in the ninth five year plan, the Tenth Five Year Plan and the cultural city construction plan.
After more than ten years of efforts, the Canal Museum started construction in 2002 and completed the main construction in 2004. The main building of the museum is unique and majestic. From a distance, it looks like a huge boat sailing through the canal.
In the second half of 2004, the preparatory work for the exhibition of the Canal Museum began.
In August 2008, the leading group for exhibition arrangement of China canal culture museum was established to be responsible for the exhibition arrangement of China canal culture museum.
On May 1, 2009, Liaocheng China Canal Culture Museum held a grand opening ceremony, officially open to the public free of charge.

Ticket collection method
During the opening period, visitors can get free tickets at the ticket office window on the east side of the north gate of the museum with their valid personal identity documents. One person can only get one ticket and enter the museum with tickets. Minors must be accompanied by their guardians before they can visit the museum.
