Shengseng nunnery
Shengseng nunnery is located at the foot of Tianma mountain in the west of Shexian County, Anhui Province. It is composed of main hall, hall of enjoyment, courtyard and monk's room.
It was first built in the period of Wude of Tang Dynasty (618-626), and then built many times. The main hall is divided into two rooms and three rooms. The courtyard is surrounded by walls and a monk's room is set on the left side of the courtyard. During the period of Wude in Tang Dynasty, Huiming, the monk in charge of the nunnery, was good at medicine and was called holy monk, so the nunnery was named holy monk nunnery. At the beginning of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, Huang Zhu, a famous painter, made five ink paintings on the anbi: the picture of sitting on the side of Guanyin (352 cm wide and 370 cm high), the picture of nine Arhats crossing the sea (390 cm wide and 220 cm high), the picture of nine Arhats going up Mount Wutai (the same as before), the picture of Cuibai (180 cm wide and 250 cm high), and the picture of Cangsong (destroyed). The Ming Dynasty remains in the nunnery, as well as the Diamond Sutra stone carvings by Yu Boxiang, the editor of national history, were inscribed and postscripted by Wang Daokun. "Shengseng nunnery mural" is a provincial key protection unit.
