Brief introduction of Ming Fang Palace
Ming Fang palace was a building in the puppet Manchu period, which was called Shenwu Palace at that time. According to the literature, the project cost was 1.4 million yuan, and 67455 workers were employed. It took more than 13 months and was completed on October 31, 1940. The building adopts the traditional Japanese architectural form. The big roof of black ceramic tile, the snow-white walls and the base of granite. The building is of reinforced concrete structure, and the roof of the hall adopts steel roof truss. The main part of the building is equipped with a semi basement and a local ring gallery. The total construction area is 5245 square meters, including 2189 square meters of semi basement, 2829 square meters of first floor and 158 square meters of local sandwich ring corridor. The total height of the building is 22.04 meters. It is a place for the Japanese to practice martial arts and offer sacrifices to the emperor.
Historical evolution
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the building returned to the people's hands. At the beginning of liberation, it was the auditorium of the air force aviation school. In the first half of 1956, after the flight school moved away, northeast Renmin University (the predecessor of Jilin University) negotiated with Changchun Municipal People's government and bought it for more than 500000 yuan as the school auditorium.
Due to the development of education, the school renovated the auditorium, built the stage, added the sky curtain and lighting equipment, added two floors of bleachers, and built the fixed seats. Walking into the auditorium, you can see the large slogan of "four kinds of air" advocated by President Kuang Yaming, which is "a high degree of socialist political air, a high degree of socialist academic air, a high degree of socialist civilization air, a high degree of socialist sports and entertainment air".
In response to the slogan of "great singing and letting go" in the rectification movement of the Chinese mainland's anti rightist movement in 1957, the school renamed the auditorium in 1957 as the "Ming Gong Palace", and inscribed by the famous ancient literologist and professor of history, Professor Chu Wu, inscribed the three golden big inscribed tablets on the red gate.
The Ming Fang palace can accommodate nearly 2000 people. The school teachers and students meeting, academic seminar, entertainment performance and film screening are all held here. President Kuang Yaming and later president Tang Aoqing and other school leaders often presided over meetings and made reports in Ming Fang palace. It used to be the political, academic and cultural center of the school. The annual orientation meeting and graduation ceremony are held here. In front of the palace gate, it becomes the best choice for graduates to take group photos with their classmates, department leaders and teachers. Ming Fang palace has left an indelible deep memory for tens of thousands of students in our school. In 1963, when Kuang Yaming, President of Nanjing University, was transferred to the post of president of Nanjing University, he wrote a poem on his parting day. One of the lines was "smile to Ming Fang Palace". This sentence is enough to represent the deep affection of all the teachers and students to the Ming Fang palace.
On September 3, 1990, the people's Government of Changchun listed the "former site of Japan's Shenwu hall" as the "key cultural relics protection unit of Changchun City".
