Jinhu Square

Jinhu square is located in the central area of Langdong, Nanning city. It is the first large-scale modern commercial square in Nanning City, which is based on ecological leisure function and integrates the ground landscape square and underground shopping mall. As an important area and "bright spot" of Nanning City, Jinhu square has received different attention.

Basic introduction

Jinhu square (formerly named "Wuxiang square") is located in the middle of Minzu Avenue, Qingxiu District, Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The square is adjacent to Jinhu North Road in the north and Jinhu South Road in the south. In the middle, it is divided into South and North squares by national Avenue. Jinhu square was built and put into use in October 2004.

Basic information

The ground square of Jinhu square started construction on August 23, 2004 and was completed and opened on October 26, 2004.

From a high point of view, the ground landscape project of Jinhu square takes the national Avenue as the central axis, and is divided into two parts: the five elephant fountain sculpture, the space flying saucer, the music fountain, the rotating pool, the falling frame, and the bronze drum ground sculpture.

The square covers an area of 77919 square meters (about 116.88 mu), of which the landscape square covers an area of 58913 square meters (about 88.36 mu). It is the largest compound garden style public open square integrating leisure and entertainment in Nanning.

Diwang International Chamber of Commerce Center, located in the north of Wuxiang square, guards the core of Langdong CBD and occupies the dragon vein area. It is the only international 5A grade a pure office building in Nanning, with a total of 58 floors. The top is equipped with high-end business apron and Diwang Yunding sightseeing platform. The building height is 218 meters (the total height of the building is 276 meters). It is the highest building in Nanning since 1680.

Wuxiang fountain sculpture

Nanning has been known as the elephant city since ancient times, and the most famous one is the legend of wuxiangling. The design inspiration of wuxiangling fountain sculpture in the square comes from the legend of wuxiangling.

It is said that in the Warring States period, in order to control the floods in the south, the first emperor of Qin sent five precious elephants from the south of the five ridges to stop the mountain torrents and keep them safe forever. The five elephants stopped when they were near Nanning. Qin Shihuang patted the ass of the elephant with his hand, but the beat was empty. He couldn't help but get angry. When he woke up, he realized that it was a dream. The first emperor of Qin, who woke up from his dream, sent people to the south to inquire. There were five more mountains that looked like elephants in the south. Since then, the floods in Nanning have been reduced, and wuxiangling has become an auspicious image to protect Nanning.

Because of the existence of Wuxiang fountain sculpture, "Jinhu square" was once named "Wuxiang square".

Summary of the name change of the Plaza

In October 2004, after the square was completed, the name "Jinhu square" was also used.

In December 2004, due to the construction of "five elephant fountain" sculpture in Jinhu square, it was renamed "five elephant square". According to historical records, because there is a five elephant ridge, Nanning is known as "five elephant city". The name of "Wuxiang square" is related to ancient "Wuxiang legend", Wuxiang ridge and "Wuxiang sculpture" in the square. It not only has historical connotation, but also is more vivid and easy to be accepted and identified by the public. However, after the name of "Wuxiang square" was changed, the roads connecting the north and south of the square were still named "Jinhu South Road" and "Jinhu North Road".

In the past two years (Note: from 2008 to 2010), with the development of Wuxiang new area, more and more citizens have discussed Wuxiang new area, Wuxiang square, wuxiangling Forest Park and Wuxiang Avenue. Some citizens and guests mistakenly believe that Wuxiang square is located in Wuxiang new area. Therefore, the place name of "Wuxiang square" has the problem of cognitive confusion.

On November 18, 2010, Nanning city place name office issued a notice, which was approved by the executive meeting of the municipal government. The "Wuxiang square" located in Langdong was renamed "Jinhu square". The name of "Wuxiang square", marked by the sculpture of "Wuxiang fountain", has withdrawn from the stage of history.
