Historical evolution
The garden site was originally farmland, cemetery and pond
Among them are beimaqiao, lujiamen, wangjiazhaiji and other small villages.
After 1952, new villages such as Changbai, Kongjiang, Fengcheng and Anshan were built one after another. In order to provide a recreation place for the surrounding residents, the Shanghai Municipal People's government decided to build a park here. The project is organized and implemented by Shidong park management area of Shanghai Landscape Management Office. In November 1956, 124700 square meters of land to the east of Shuangyang Road, west of Longchang Road, south of Kongjiang Road and north of tangjiabang were collected for preliminary construction.
Construction started in early 1957 and was completed and opened on January 24, 1958. Originally known as the river control Park, it was soon renamed Yangpu park according to the opinions of the masses. Since then, it has carried out expansion and partial reconstruction for many times, and the project was undertaken by the Garden Management Office of Yangpu District. In October 1958, 64700 square meters of land to the west of Longchang road and the south of tangjiabang were expropriated for park expansion. The expansion project was completed in 1959. In 1959, it also expropriated 2000 square meters of land near Wang's homestead to build a zoo. Due to financial constraints, the early construction of the park was simple and crude. The roads and floors were mostly paved with gravel and coal chips. There were few revetments near the lake. The bridges, pavilions, corridors and other garden buildings were mostly bamboo and wood structures, and the variety of flowers and trees was relatively monotonous. After 1960, lakeside revetments were built one after another, roads and floors were rebuilt, bridges, pavilions and corridors were rebuilt, and various recreational facilities were added. Tangjiabang and its tributaries, which passed through the garden in 1975, were polluted by industrial waste water, which affected the appearance of the garden. After filling, the land of 3600 square meters was expanded. After landscaping, it became a part of Gaopo flower belt scenic spot in that year.
In 1980, Lanzhou nursery was expropriated for other purposes. As compensation, 11400 square meters of land near lujiamen were expropriated in batches and then incorporated into the park. From 1984 to 1986, four bamboo bridges in Yuhu Lake were rebuilt into stone bridges. In 1997, an investment of 1 million yuan was invested to carry out the project of breaking the wall to get through the green in the north of the park. The 385 meter long brick wall beside Kongjiang Road was demolished and transformed into an art fence made of metal. A total of 3460 square meters of land between the sidewalk and the park was built into a green space. Pine, cypress, green bamboo, Cinnamomum camphora, palm and flower shrubs were planted everywhere. The floor was paved, stone tables and benches were set up, and all kinds of lights were installed to make the park green It has become a green leisure activity area, which harmoniously integrates the scenery inside and outside the park, and expands the vision of tourists and passers-by. In 1998, the wall near Longchang Road on the east side of the park was transformed into a perspective wall and arranged as a science gallery.
Since 1981, ground cover plants such as Ophiopogon japonicus, Cymbidium, Lycoris radiata, Acorus tatarinowii, iris, Hemerocallis fulva and Cymbidium were planted year by year in the Bush, forest and roadside. By 1990, there were 12 varieties, and by 2000, there were more than 30 varieties. In 2002, a number of new and excellent varieties were introduced to make the garden green.
