Xiongfo West building, one of the "top ten national culture museums in Shanghai Universities", was moved to xiongfo West Building in Huashan Road in 2008. Among the famous buildings of colleges and universities in Shanghai, the xiongfo West Building (No. 630, Huashan Road) of Shanghai drama academy is a remarkable place. Xiong Foxi building is named in memory of Xiong Foxi, the first president of Shanghai Theatre Academy. Xiong Fosi (1900-1965) is a famous modern playwright and one of the pioneers of China's new drama movement. Xiong Fuxi, formerly known as Xiong Fuxi, became interested in drama when he was in middle school and often participated in the civilized drama performances held by the school. He was admitted to Yanjing University in 1920, and soon joined the popular drama club to promote the school drama movement. After graduating from Yan University, he went to Columbia University to study drama. After receiving a master's degree in 1926, he returned to Beijing National Academy of arts to be the director of the drama department. He trained the first batch of highly educated drama talents for China. Xiong Foshi has been engaged in drama education for a long time, trained thousands of young people and made great contributions to the cause of Chinese drama. Xiongfoxi building, built in 1920s and 1930s, is an "old man" who witnessed the history of opera. At that time, it was not called xiongfusi building, but a country club of German overseas Chinese in Shanghai. After the first World War, the French forcibly occupied the country club built by the German in the former Meier xi'ai Road (today's No. 58 Maoming South Road) in Shanghai. The German, who usually likes leisure parties, had no choice but to rebuild a new country club in the beautiful garden in the west of Shanghai! Shanghai experimental drama school, the predecessor of Shanghai Academy of drama, was founded in this country club. At that time, Mr. Xiong was the president. Later, the building was named Xiong Foxi building. It soon became the earliest and largest recording studio in the Far East at that time.

In the 1920s, Chinese architecture was in the initial stage of modern transformation. A large number of overseas architects came back from abroad and stepped on the early stage of domestic architecture. At that time, many of the buildings fused the characteristics of Chinese architecture and Western architecture, and xiongfoxi building was one of the representatives. It does not have the characteristics of small and exquisite Chinese traditional garden architecture, nor does it belong to the rough, open, full of personality architecture. Its aesthetic means are not ostentatious and noisy, but implicit and peaceful. It's like a good glass of wine. When you appreciate it carefully, you will find that the proportion between its volume and line is so harmonious. Right in front of xiongfo West building is a piece of grass, on the right side is connected with another piece of grass across the road, on the left side is the famous new experimental space for Shangxi opera, and on the back is a modern red building. Xiongfo West building is located in the middle, integrating all the different things around with its own spatial relationship.

Once a country club in Germany

From the gate of Yan'an Road of Shanghai drama academy, you can easily find Xiong Fuxi building, the old German country club. After the first World War, the French forcibly occupied the country club built by the German in the former Meier xi'ai Road (today's No. 58 Maoming South Road) in Shanghai. The German, who usually liked leisure parties, had no choice but to rebuild another country club in the beautiful garden in the west of Shanghai. The club was built in 1903, covering an area of more than 3 mu. There is a small German house with two floors and a square veranda. There are reception hall, ladies' room, rest room, dance hall, dining room, billiard room, etc. in the building, more than 10 tennis courts and lawn bowling courts have been built in the garden. In 1910, the German built an open-air skating rink here. Later, a swimming pool was dug up in the theater of the Theatre Academy, which was also a masterpiece of the German people of this period.
