History and Humanities
Shen Li, a Song Dynasty man, wrote the story of crabapple: crabapple in the world has no fragrance, but Dazu is the only one in China, so Dazu is also known as "the country of crabapple fragrance". There are numerous cultural and natural sceneries in Chongqing. Dazu stone carving is the only world cultural heritage in Chongqing.
Dazu County was built in 758 A.D. in the first year of Qianyuan reign of emperor suzong of Tang Dynasty, and got its name from the meaning of "Dafeng Dazu". Because of the legend of "only fragrant crabapple", it has the good name of "fragrant country of crabapple". From the end of the Tang Dynasty to the end of the Song Dynasty, it governed the land for Changzhou Prefecture and Tongchuan Prefecture. In the 10th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, it was changed to Chongqing government. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Chongqing government and East Sichuan Road. In 1935, it was the third administrative supervision area of Sichuan Province. After liberation, it was successively under the jurisdiction of Bishan District, Jiangjin district and Yongchuan District. In 1983, Yongchuan District was removed from Chongqing.
