Beigongmen
Beigongmen refers to the north gate of the summer palace. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, it was the main gate of Qingyi Garden, facing north from the south. It is a two-story gate with a width of seven rooms. Because the south of Qingyi Garden is Kunming Lake, there is no gate, so the north is regarded as the upper gate, so the north gate is the main gate, which is called "beigongmen".
Historical sources
In 1860, Qingyi Garden was burned by the British and French allied forces. During the Tongzhi period, it was rebuilt and renamed as "Summer Palace". The east palace gate was changed into the main gate, while the North Palace Gate became the north gate of the summer palace, and its reputation was far less than that of the east palace gate.
