Babaozhen
Babaozhen, located in Changhua County, Taiwan, was first built in 1719. It is one of the oldest in Taiwan. Because the canal was built by Shi Shibang, it was originally called "shicuo canal". It was also called "Zhuoshui canal" or "Babao canal" because it used the water from the chuoshui River to irrigate the farmland of Babao. Babao channel, together with tonglong channel in Tainan County and longen channel in Hsinchu County, is generally called the three ancient channels in Taiwan.
The so-called "Bao" was originally called "Bao" during the Qing Dynasty. It was the name of the administrative region at that time, implying the Baojia system. A Bao is equivalent to a township, with many villages under its jurisdiction. At that time, there were 13 and a half conservation areas under the jurisdiction of Changhua County, eight of which were irrigated by this canal and named "babaozhen". The Japanese called it "Bao", so babaozhen was renamed "babaozhen" until now.
The irrigation area of babaozhen covers the following eight "fortresses": dongluodongbao, dongluoxibao, wudongbao, wuxibao, yanwushangbao, yanwuxiabao, xiandongbao and Mazhi Shangbao. They are generally Zhanghua City, Hemei Town, Yuanlin Town, Lugang Town, Beidou Town, Tianzhong Town, Xihu Town, Huatan Township, ershui Township, Yongjing Township, Tianwei Township, Wutou Township, Xizhou Township, Shetou Township, Xiushui Township, Dacun Township, Fuxing Township and Puyan township.
