Compared with Anping's "big" fort, that is, the golden city of Yizai, this fort is "Petite" and gets its name. This fort built to prevent British invasion during the Opium War of Qing Dynasty is different from the modern "western style" fort in Yizai Jincheng, but it is the most complete later masterpiece of the old Chinese style fort.

Since Taiwan was incorporated into the territory of the Qing Empire, Anping has always been an important coastal defense town. After the Opium War of Qing Dynasty in 1841, the small fort of Anping was the most important defensive fortress on the southwest coast of Anping town (now Anping Castle) until the completion of Yizai Jincheng.

Because of the change of geographical environment, the small battery is farther and farther away from the coast, and gradually lose the function of coastal defense. You can see a raised glass seal on the fort, which is the entrance and exit of the ammunition depot in the former basement! Surrounded by the seawall built by old ancient stones, it clearly witnesses the change of Anping coastline! The former British B.P. nine pound bullet iron gun is on the platform. The gun now seen is no longer the original one. The stone dike in the north is made of Zigu stone and filled with Sanhe soil. There is a fire opening, and the fire opening is equipped with a gate to block water The first half of the dike goes deep into the open space of the residential buildings and the activity center of Wangcheng West community, and is close to the residential buildings; the second half is the stone dike with the old Fort as the main body. Now it is the third level historic site in China.

It was one of the coastal defense measures adopted by the British army. The small fort of Anping faced the inland waters of the Taijiang River and the four grass fort on the West Bank to form horns. At that time, there were Dagang fort, hongmaocheng fort, houhougong fort, anhaitou fort and huikuwei fort in Anping area.
