Around the confluence of Qinhuai River and zhanqingxi River, which is to the east of huaiqingqiao, there is a "taoyedu tablet" and a "taoyedu Pavilion" at the present ferry crossing. The origin of the name of taoyedu can be traced back to the Six Dynasties and the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Wang Xianzhi, the seventh son of Wang Xizhi, a great calligrapher, often met his concubine taoyedu here. At that time, the Qinhuai River was wide. In case of wind and waves, if the ferry was not careful, it would often capsize. Taoye was afraid every time she ferried. When she came back, Wang Xianzhi wrote a song of taoye for her: "Taoxian recovers taoye. You don't need a boat to cross the river, but you don't have to suffer. I welcome you." In memory of Wang Xianzhi, later generations named the ferry where he met taoye as taoye ferry. From the Six Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, taoyedu was a prosperous area. The river boats are racing and the lightboats are beating. During the reign of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, Jin Yunan, the guardian of Xiaoling, moved to the ferry. Seeing that the ferry was very crowded and people often fell into the water and died, he donated to build a wooden bridge, which was named "lisheqiao" (meaning convenient wading). In 1663, yimuqiao was a stone bridge. In 1984, the relevant departments set up the taoyedu monument at the original site of the ferry.

It starts from the east of Gongyuan street in the South and ends at the west of Huaiqing bridge in Jiankang road in the north, also known as nanpudu.

In 1984, the relevant departments set up the taoyedu monument at the original site of the ferry. Today's taoyedu old house is Wu Jingzi's former residence. Inside, there is a stele square, on which the words "ancient taoyedu" are clearly depicted. On both sides of the square couplets are "the water of Qin Dynasty is swayed by boats, and the wind of Jin Dynasty is brought by branches".
During the reign of emperor Shunzhi of Qing Dynasty, Jin Yunan, the guardian of Xiaoling, moved to the ferry. Seeing that the ferry was very crowded and people often fell into the water and died, he donated a wooden bridge, which was named "lisheqiao" (meaning convenient wading). In 1663 (the second year of Kangxi), yimuqiao was a stone bridge. In 1984, the relevant departments set up the taoyedu monument at the original site of the ferry.
Today, there is a stone archway near the taoyedu River, with four vigorous and powerful characters of "ancient taoyedu" written horizontally. The couplets on both sides of the front are as follows: "the willows grow on the shore, the peach blossom ferry lipstick." On the back is: "Ji shakes the water of Qin Dynasty, and the branches take the wind of Jin Dynasty."
There is another taoyedu with the same name in Pukou, Nanjing. Original name
Origin one
According to folklore, in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the banks of Qinhuai River and guqingxi waterway were covered with peach trees. When the wind blows in spring, there will be peach leaves floating on the surface of the water. The boatman in the boat looks at the peach leaves floating all over the river and laughs at them.
Two origins
It is said that Wang Xianzhi, a calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, had a concubine named "peach leaf". When she traveled between the two sides of the Qinhuai River, Wang Xianzhi was not at ease. He often met her at the ferry and wrote the song of peach leaf for her: "peach leaf is the same as peach leaf, you don't need a boat to cross the river; but I have nothing to do to cross the river, so I welcome you." From then on, the ferry became famous. As time passed, nanpudu was called taoyedu.
Historical records
Taoyedu of Qinhuai River in Nanjing, like the broken bridge of West Lake in Hangzhou and the 24 bridges of thin West Lake in Yangzhou, is more romantic, which leads to countless romantic legends and tearful stories.
In the Song Dynasty, Zeng Ji's "peach leaf ferry" said: "the grass at the waist of the skirt refuses the long dike, and Nanpu resents parting year after year. Water is sent to Hengbo mountain to gather green, just like peach leaves crossing the river. "
Wu Jingzi's five rhythms "peach leaf ferry" in the Qing Dynasty: "Huafei white bridge, I was sent back to my concubine in the past. The water shines on the city, Liu Shu smiles. If the flute is buried for a long time, it will be a disaster. Beauty is valued in the world, and peach leaves are preserved in the ancient ferry. "
Wang Xianzhi left four poems in taoyedu
"The peach leaves reflect the red flowers and are graceful without wind. What's the limit of spring flowers? Ganlang is my only choice. "
"The leaves of peach trees are the same as the leaves of peach trees, and the roots of peach trees are the same. The two pleasures of compassion alone make me attentive
"Peach leaves are like peach leaves, you don't have to cross the river by boat. But I will meet you without suffering. "
"The peach leaf is the same as the peach leaf, and crossing the river does not wait for rowing. When the storm broke, he would die in Jiangnan. "
