The origin of the building
The Shangcheng Buddhist temple was built in 1868, covering an area of more than 5000 square meters. It is composed of a Buddhist hall, a monk's room, a gate, a guide Gallery, a sutra Pavilion, a gold pagoda, and a Silver Pagoda. The main building of the temple is a triple eaves veranda civil structure on Xieshan mountain. There are 56 columns arranged symmetrically in 8 rows. Each column, brace, beam, and eaves purlin has a variety of patterns of flowers, animals, and figures pasted with gold powder. The roof is small hanging tiles.
Folklore
In the Shangcheng Buddhist temple, there are statues of Sakyamuni on the niches. Around them are various banners offered by the believers. The banners record the myths and legends of the Dai people, and are painted with life patterns. The Dai People's history, architecture, production, life, religion and belief are vividly displayed through folk art forms such as paper-cut, brocade and color painting.
