Rongcheng Swan National Nature Reserve is located in Chengshan town of Rongcheng City, Weihai City, Shandong Province, with a total area of 1675 hectares, including 668 hectares of core area, 628 hectares of buffer area and 379 hectares of experimental area. In 2000, Shandong provincial government approved the establishment of Rongcheng Swan Lake Provincial Nature Reserve, which was promoted to the national level in April 2007. This area mainly protects endangered birds such as Swan and wetland ecosystem. It is an important transit station and wintering habitat for birds moving south and North. Nearly 10000 Swan come here every year for wintering. It is the largest known habitat for Swan wintering population in the world. There are reed swamp, beach, shallow sea and lagoon in the area. The sandbar lagoon system is a typical coastal landform in the nature reserve, and Mashan harbor is one of the most complete and typical existing lagoons in China. The landscape of the Reserve belongs to the transition zone between land and sea, which has significant ecosystem diversity and special protection and scientific research value.
