Guandu Nature Park is a multi-functional nature park with the functions of protection, education and research. It's not far from downtown Taipei, so it's easy to get there. It's always a migratory bird habitat around Taipei. People can enjoy a variety of birds living here. What's more interesting is that there is a heart-shaped wetland in the park. Tourists interested can follow the route of "discovering the heart-shaped wetland" in the schematic diagram of the park to find it.
guandu nature park
Guandu Nature Park is located at the north end of Taipei Basin on Taiwan Island, at the junction of Tanshui River and Keelung River. It is a nature park with multiple functions such as protection, education and research. Since December 1, 2001, Guandu Nature Park has been operated and managed by the Taipei municipal government and the "Taipei Wild Bird Society", a financial corporation. Since ancient times, it has been an important habitat for migratory birds and a scenic spot for bird lovers.
Development history
In the early Qing Dynasty, this area was a large area of water. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, it was reclaimed as agricultural land.
After 1955, because of the subsidence of the ground rock caused by the pumping of groundwater from the Taipei basin, and the diversion of the Keelung River, the flood in this area was still frequent.
After the construction of the Guandu dike in 1968, the farmland outside the dike was gradually abandoned, and the Tanshui River sand pumping and seawater intrusion made the area outside the dike form a swamp.
Three Americans, Jack Moll, K. t. Blackshaw and William Thomas, began bird watching in Taiwan in 1971. The wetland and migratory bird habitat on the right bank of the intersection of Tanshui River and Keelung River in front of Guandu palace has become the focus of bird watchers' attention.
In 1978, shuibizi began to grow outside the dike to form a mangrove.
Since April 1981, Zhang genxun, a conservationist of the Taipei bird watching Association, wrote to the Taipei municipal government asking for the establishment of a nature reserve to protect the rich ecological environment of the area.
In September 1983, the Taipei municipal government announced the Caoze district on both sides of the Keelung estuary, which is from the south of the Guandu dike to the top of Shezi Island, as the "Beishi Guandu waterfowl ecological conservation area".
In 1985, Lin yaosong promoted the establishment of a "natural park" concept in Guandu area, which combines the protection of wild birds with education and leisure, and started the planning work during the term of mayor Xu shuide. In October of the same year, the Guandu waterfowl season was held by the Taipei bird watching Association, which made Guandu bird watching famous.
On June 27, 1986, Guandu Nature Reserve was established and managed by the Construction Bureau of Taipei municipal government.
From 1986 to 1991, the establishment of Guandu Nature Park entered a dark period. As the establishment of the natural park was incorporated into the development of Guandu Plain, the public objected to it, and the natural environment was destroyed by the dumping of garbage and waste soil, and the invasion of light aircraft and water motorcycles, the number of bird species observed decreased from 139 to 47.
After the continuous lobbying and expediting activities of the Taipei wild bird society and the holding of the waterfowl season in 1996 to promote the public's awareness of environmental protection, it was not until 1996 that the Taipei municipal government established the "Guandu Nature Park" to officially define the scope of the reserve to protect the natural wetland pure land and provide a place for protection, education, leisure and research.
On December 1, 2001, the Guandu Nature Park was operated and managed by the Taipei wild bird society.
In May 2002, stilt bunting was successfully bred for the first time in the park; in October, it became a parent crab platform, providing a place to enjoy crabs such as fiddler crabs; in November, it became the first nature park with wireless internet access.
In 2003, the ecological miniature exhibition area of "riverbank facing inter zone - Tanshui pond - Tanshui seasonal grass" was built.
In July 2004, we carried out the environmental construction of the freshwater wetland ecological zone, changed the 3 hectares of paddy field in the park into a freshwater pond wetland with different water depths and planting, provided diverse habitats for birds breeding in spring and summer, and provided a stable habitat for birds breeding in spring and summer. In October, we held the "HSBC wetland classroom Guandu wetland environmental education activity" and "HSBC wetland teachers' training camp" with the long-term sponsorship of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Let primary school students know more about wetland conservation.
geographical environment
The average annual temperature in Guandu Plain is about 22 ℃, the minimum monthly average temperature is about 15 ℃, and the maximum monthly average temperature is about 28.7 ℃. The average annual rainfall is about 2071 mm. The stratum belongs to modern alluvium, the stratum near the mountain area in the north is Pleistocene volcanic rock (tuff breccia), and the area of Guizikeng in Beitou is Miocene sedimentary rock. Jinshan fault passes through the northwest margin. The terrain is gradually lower from north to southwest. The southern half of the dike is swampy with many tidal streams. When the tide rises, most of the grass is submerged, while the mangrove only shows its crown; when the tide falls, a large area of mudflat appears.
Guandu Nature Park has a paradise for bird watching, Meihao, the last pure land in Northern Taiwan, and the place where most migratory birds gather in the North - soft mud, which provides bird habitat. In order to protect this wetland, the government plans the park as a reserve, a natural education area, a landscape area and a leisure area.
The peak season of bird watching is from October to March every year, which is the place where most migratory birds gather in the north. There are more than 400 kinds of birds in the island, and there were more than 200 kinds here, which shows the abundance of bird resources. Other swamp endemic plant facies, fiddler crab, mudskipper and other ecology are worth exploring and observing.
Main attractions
Since December 1, 2001, at the junction of the Tanshui River and the Keelung River, the Guandu Nature Park has been commissioned by the Taipei municipal government. Since ancient times, it has been an important habitat for migratory birds and a bird watching spot for bird lovers.
Guandu Nature Park is adjacent to Danshui Town, covering an area of 57 hectares. It is mainly divided into four areas: main facilities area, conservation core area, outdoor observation area and sustainable operation area. The conservation core area is not open to tourists, but you can observe the situation through the telescope or bird watching cabin on the second floor of the center.

The main facility area is located in the north of the park, with facilities such as natural center, bird watching house, footpath and interpretation system, covering an area of 5 hectares.
Nature Center:
It is a service center for ecological education, research and tourists. There is a high-power telescope on the second floor to provide bird watching.
Coastal forest area:
It shows the ecology of water conservation, salt resistance and reproduction of plants in high salt environment.
Riparian ecological zone:
Located in Guizikeng River, it shows the plant ecology of the open land on both sides of the river bank.
Bitang ecological zone:
This paper shows the static water area and hygrophilic environment ecology of zhongyutang in the North Taiwan plain.
Parent crab observation area:
Located in the slow flow zone before shuimokeng River enters the gate of Guandu sluice, it shows the caves of different crabs and their interesting foraging behaviors on the nutrient rich mudflat in the tidal reach.
In the northern low altitude forest region:
The insect ecology of broad-leaved forest below 300 meters above sea level in Northern Taiwan is presented.
Birdhouse:
It is a bird watching cabin for stealth in the north of the conservation core area. There are four houses facing different directions.
The conservation core area accounts for the majority of the park, which is the main site of nature conservation in the park and is not open to tourists.
The outdoor observation area is located in the south of the park, which is two bird watching squares near the Guandu dike.
The sustainable management zone is located in the east of the park, which is a buffer zone of natural ecology and human activities. The contracted farmers are responsible for farming and providing different habitats for birds.
Features of scenic spots
time brings great changes to the world
Guandu is located in the northwest end of the Taipei basin, in the alluvial wetland where the Keelung River meets the Danshui River. More than 300 years ago, the kaidaglan people of Pingpu nationality This piece of land is called "Kantou". After a great earthquake, it collapsed into a great lake bed. Later, it was gradually restored to the plain landscape by the river. However, 40 or 50 years ago, when the construction of Taipei took off, the problem of over pumping groundwater became more and more serious. The subsidence of the site made the sea water easy to invade. In addition, due to the digging of the pass gate and the flooding caused by typhoon, the pass became a large area again In recent years, due to the dumping of waste soil and the equality of pond filling brought by man-made development, Guandu wetland tends to be land-based again. In just a few hundred years, with the vicissitudes of life, Guandu has become what we see today.
Migratory bird station
The Danshui River is funnel-shaped from the river channel to Guandu, which is the best place to observe the passing water birds and winter migratory birds. The best viewing season is from September to April, especially in late April
