Qiaoxizhi street is one of the secluded places in Hangzhou. From the Canal Square to the west, cross Gongchen bridge, turn left and go south along the canal. It's a quiet alley, paved with stone slabs. On both sides are white wall Daiwa style shops in Ming and Qing Dynasties, including bookstores, teahouses, cafes, creative shops and several characteristic museums. Next to it is the canal, and it's very pleasant to light up at night. Because it is developed in recent years, there are not many people, quiet and cool. Come here to listen to the sound of the river beating on the rock sill. Slowly, you will calm down and feel very comfortable.
Qiaoxizhi Street
Qiaoxizhi street is the general name of the area to the west of Gongchen bridge in Gongshu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Qiaoxi historical and Cultural District, the scope is more clear, from Gongchen Qiaotou to the west, north to China Fan Museum, South to Dengyun Road, West to Xiaohe road. Qiaoxi area is an ancient building complex in Jiangnan Water Town, and now it is a traditional Chinese medicine characteristic block.
If we want to find a place beside the canal and see the modern history and culture, qiaoxizhi street is definitely a good place. It witnessed the prosperous scenery along the canal in the past, saw the helplessness of the industrial decline in the 1980s and 1990s, and condensed the epitome of the development history of national industry in modern Hangzhou for more than 100 years since the late Qing Dynasty.
The so-called "Qiaoxi" is a general term for the area to the west of Gongchen bridge. Qiaoxi historical and Cultural District, the scope is more clear, from Gongchen Qiaotou to the west, north to China Fan Museum, South to Dengyun Road, West to Xiaohe road. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this area was known as "Beiguan night market". Because of the convenient transportation of the canal, Liuhang (rice shop, fish shop, paper shop, wine shop, firewood shop, foreign shop) and Liuguan (tobacco shop, tea house, opera house, restaurant, gambling house, prostitute shop) all built shops along the river, known as "little Shanghai", attracting all kinds of people.
Qiaoxizhi street is close to Gongchen bridge. There are traces of modern industrial development, a large number of streets and alleys with texture, traditional courtyard, and aborigines who have lived all their lives. The most rare thing is that the old delivery rooms, as modern industrial heritage, are full of new charm because of the arrival of Gongmei museums. In 1889, Tongyigong yarn mill, the earliest mechanical textile enterprise in Hangzhou, was established in the west of Gongchen bridge, which opened the prelude of Hangzhou's modern industry. This is the predecessor of hangyimian. Many residents living in Qiaoxi have worked in factories since they were teenagers, and worked until they retired.
Today's qiaoxizhi street has become a historical block of qiaoxizhi street
From the Canal Square, Gongchen bridge is qiaoxizhi street. The historic district is L-shaped, preserving complete residential buildings along the river in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, as well as a large number of modern industrial remains. Compared with Xiaohe straight street, Qiaoxi straight street has a stronger business atmosphere. The three industrial museums of the canal reconstructed from the old factory buildings -- China Umbrella Museum, China Fan Museum, China knife and sword Museum, as well as the God of wealth temple, Zhang Daxian temple and the bookshop on the riverside, add a humanistic atmosphere to the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal.
