Guyuan museum is one of the most important museums in Ningxia Autonomous Region. The collection of the museum is characterized by the northern bronzes of the spring and autumn and Warring States periods and the Silk Road Relics of the Northern Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui and Tang Dynasties. The building of the museum is not complicated. It consists of exhibition building, Bell Pavilion, tomb restoration hall and stone carving. The exhibition building is the main area for tourists to visit. The exhibition of the exhibition building is divided into two parts: basic exhibition of Guyuan historical relics and special exhibition of Silk Road in Guyuan. Among the three cultural relics on display are the treasures of Guyuan Museum: gilded silver bottles of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, glass bowls with protruding nails, and lacquer coffin paintings of the Northern Wei Dynasty.

Guyuan museum is located in Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is a comprehensive provincial museum mainly collecting national historical relics. Guyuan museum was founded in 1983 and officially opened to the public in September 1988. It covers an area of 24000 square meters and a construction area of 14000 square meters. The exhibition building is a four corner zanjian pagoda shaped structure imitating the Tang Dynasty.
As of September 2019, Guyuan Museum has four fixed exhibition halls with nearly 20000 cultural relics, including 123 national first-class cultural relics, 2008 second-class cultural relics, 3816 third-class cultural relics and 3 national treasure cultural relics.

In 2009, it was awarded the title of "national civilized unit".
Historical evolution
In 1983, Guyuan museum began construction.
On September 25, 1988, Guyuan museum was completed and opened.

Lingwu kiln is one of the major ancient porcelain kilns in China. The project was signed by Beijing Art Museum and Guyuan Museum, and invested 150000 yuan. The project was established in 2015.
Investigation of Xixia ruins
The project of "investigation and Research on Xixia ruins in Xihaigu area of Ningxia" was launched in March 2016. The main research contents include: sorting out the historical traces of Xixia's management of Xihaigu area, including the rise of Dangxiang ethnic group in Xihaigu area, the rule of Xixia over some Xihaigu areas, the competition history of Song Xia and Jin Xia in Xihaigu area, etc., investigating and studying the military and political sites related to Xixia in Xihaigu area, including the state Castle villages established in Northern Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty for Xixia, and the City Village Heritage of Xixia In addition, new materials and new discussions are put forward on some controversial historical and geographical issues related to Xihaigu area, such as tiandushan palace, nanmuhui, haoshuichuan Diwang and Yuanhao Yuan, Ren Dejing group's sphere of influence, Song Xia, Song Jin's offensive and defensive system in Xihaigu area, etc.
