Historical evolution
Beijing period
In the early days of the founding of new China, Fu Zuoyi, then Minister of water resources, presided over the establishment of Beijing water conservancy school, the predecessor of the school, in 1951.
On September 15, 1951, the water conservancy School of the Ministry of water resources of the Central People's government officially opened in Beijing. The school is located at No. 10 of the patrol hall in Fuchengmen (now Minkang hutong).
In September 1953, Beijing water conservancy school moved to Huayuan village in the western suburb of Beijing to build a new school building (the former location of Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water conservancy and hydropower).
In 1954, the school was renamed Beijing water conservancy school.
On October 6, 1958, Beijing water conservancy school, Beijing Water Conservancy and power generation correspondence college and Beijing Water Conservancy and power generation school jointly established Beijing Water Conservancy and power generation college, and held the inaugural meeting in Dingfuzhuang, the eastern suburb of Beijing. Zhang Zilin, President of Beijing water resources and Hydropower Research Institute, is also the president. October 6 is the school day.
Since 1958, he has accepted students from Vietnam, Nepal, Indonesia, Cameroon and other countries (stopped in 1966 and resumed in 2004).
On February 20, 1959, the Ministry of water resources and electric power appointed Wei Guoyuan as the president of Beijing Institute of water resources and hydropower, and Zhang Zilin also served as the Secretary of the Party committee of the Institute.
On July 23, 1959, the first Department of Beijing University of water resources and hydropower was directly led by the Ministry of water resources and power, and Beijing University of hydropower was restored.
In 1960, the University aided the construction of Vietnam water conservancy and Hydropower Institute. In September, Wang Huzhen, a famous water conservancy expert, chief engineer of Sanmenxia Reservoir Engineering Bureau of the Yellow River, and member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was transferred to the college as president.
In 1963, Harbin Institute of architecture and Engineering (now incorporated into Harbin Institute of Technology) merged the major of river hub and hydropower station into the University, and began to recruit graduate students in the same year.
In April 1966, Premier Zhou Enlai visited the earthquake area of Hebei Province. During the discussion, he learned that there was a lack of water conservancy talents in North China, so he proposed to move Beijing Institute of water conservancy and hydropower from Beijing to Handan. On May 30, the Ministry of water resources and electric power sent a letter to Hebei provincial Party committee and provincial Reform Commission to move Beijing Institute of water resources and Hydropower to Yuecheng Reservoir site in Ci County, Handan City, Hebei Province.
In 1966, when the "Cultural Revolution" began, the college was in chaos and stopped enrolling students

Yuecheng period
In 1969, he was ordered to move to Yuecheng Reservoir in Ci County, Hebei Province and Linxian County, Henan Province. It is one of the 13 universities in Beijing.
On March 20, 1970, the military management commission of the Ministry of water resources and electric power sent a message to the Hebei Provincial Revolutionary Committee, which handed over the Beijing Institute of water resources and Hydropower to the leadership of Hebei Province.
On December 23, 1970, Beijing University of water resources and hydropower changed its name to Hebei University of water resources and hydropower.
On January 1, 1971, the new name of Hebei University of water resources and hydropower was put into use

Handan period
On November 7, 1972, Hebei University of water resources and hydropower established its school at the south end of Zhonghua street in Handan, and Yuecheng retained its teaching site, which was under the dual leadership of the Ministry of water resources and electric power and Hebei Province, with the Ministry of water resources and electric power as the main body.
In 1977, with the approval of the State Council, the Beijing Graduate Department of North China Institute of water resources and hydropower was established at the former site of Beijing Institute of water resources and hydropower, Huayuan village, western suburb of Beijing. It was led by North China Institute of water resources and hydropower and the Institute of water resources and Hydropower Science, and officially opened in February.
On September 28, 1978, Hebei University of water resources and hydropower changed its name to North China University of water resources and hydropower.
On January 3, 1980, Yuecheng teaching base was cancelled

In November 1981, the State Council approved North China University of water resources and hydropower as the first batch of units authorized to confer master's degree.
In December 1983, according to the instructions of the Ministry of water resources and electric power, the Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water resources and hydropower was under the leadership of Beijing Institute of water resources and electric power economics and management, which is still known as the Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water resources and hydropower.
On September 23, 1984, the Ministry of water resources and electric power approved Wang Huzhen to be the honorary president of North China University of water resources and hydropower.
On June 30, 1987, the State Education Commission agreed to move the North China Institute of water resources and hydropower from Handan City, Hebei Province to Zhengzhou City, Henan Province

Zhengzhou period
On July 22, 1990, North China Institute of water resources and hydropower held an information conference in Henan science and Technology Museum of Zhengzhou City, announcing that the school began to move to Zhengzhou in 1990. On September 6, the unveiling ceremony of the new school board of "North China University of water resources and Hydropower", which was inscribed by Premier Li Peng of the State Council, was solemnly held in Zhengzhou new school

On September 1, 1991, the school headquarters moved to Zheng office. North China Institute of water resources and hydropower (Handan) was established.
In May 1992, with the approval of the Ministry of water resources, Beijing water resources and Hydropower Management Cadre College was established on the basis of Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water resources and hydropower, Beijing water resources and power correspondence college and Party school directly under the Ministry of water resources of the Communist Party of China.
On February 28, 2000, the Universities under the central government were decentralized, and the North China Institute of water resources and hydropower was adjusted from the management of the Ministry of water resources to the co construction of the Ministry of water resources and Henan Province. In October, the Ministry of Education approved the University's master's degree examination right. The university has become the only one in Henan Province and one of 159 universities in China with this qualification.
In 2001, Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water resources and hydropower, Beijing Correspondence College of water resources and power, and Management Cadre College of State Building Materials Bureau (Beijing Graduate Department of Wuhan University of Technology) were merged into Beijing University of technology. On June 15, the Graduate Office of North China University of water resources and hydropower was established

On March 25, 2003, Henan Provincial Planning Commission approved the construction of the new campus in Longzihu University Park, with a total land acquisition area of 1770 mu. In the same year, North China Institute of water resources and hydropower (Handan) merged with Hebei Institute of architecture and technology, Handan Agricultural College and Handan Medical College to form Hebei Engineering College (later renamed Hebei Engineering University).
On May 23, 2004, Henan Provincial Department of Education approved North China University of water resources and Hydropower to resume recruiting foreign students to China.
In 2005, he won the excellent title in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education.
On August 12, 2009, the Henan provincial government and the Ministry of water resources signed the agreement on jointly building north China Institute of water resources and hydropower in Beijing, becoming the third University jointly built by Henan Province after Zhengzhou University and Henan University

In 2011, the University became the second batch of excellent engineer training plan universities of the Ministry of education.
In August 2012, it was shortlisted as one hundred universities of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China's central and western universities basic ability construction project.
On April 18, 2013, North China University of water resources and hydropower changed its name to North China University of water resources and hydropower
