School predecessor
Wuxi Institute of Light Industry
The predecessor of Wuxi University of light industry is the Department of food industry of Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University). Its history of running a school can be traced back to Sanjiang normal school (founded in 1902 and renamed Liangjiang Normal School in 1906), which was founded in the early 20th century. It shares the same origin with eight universities, namely Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Hehai University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing University of technology and Jiangsu University.
In 1952, the Department of food industry of Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) was established by the related departments of Nanjing University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University and private Jiangnan University.
On August 18, 1958, Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee decided to move the Department of food industry of Nanjing Institute of technology eastward to the former site of Huadong Art College in Wuxi City (Sheqiao), named Wuxi Institute of food industry, later renamed Wuxi Institute of light industry, which was established on November 17.
In 1960, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it began to recruit and train graduate students.
In 1961, the chemical engineering specialty of Wuxi Polytechnic College was merged into the University.
In September 1962, Wuxi Institute of textile technology was merged into Wuxi Institute of light industry and established the Department of textile engineering.
In the second half of 1966, the headquarters of the College moved to Castle Peak Bay, and the former Sheqiao campus was a branch.
In May 1993, China Light Industry Association, Jiangsu Provincial People's government, Jiangsu Provincial Education Committee and Jiangsu Provincial Department of textile industry agreed that Wuxi Institute of light industry and textile branch of Wuxi Institute of light industry should jointly run a school and use the name of Wuxi Institute of light industry. The textile branch belongs to Wuxi Institute of light industry. The location of the textile branch is Xishan campus of Wuxi Institute of light industry.
On March 9, 1995, China Federation of light industry forwarded the "notice on Approving the renaming of Wuxi Institute of light industry as Wuxi University of light industry" from the State Education Commission, and Zhao Puchu wrote the name of Wuxi University of light industry.
On November 23, 1995, Wuxi Institute of light industry held the unveiling ceremony of Wuxi University of light industry jointly built by China Federation of light industry, Jiangsu Provincial People's government and Wuxi Municipal People's government.
In October 1995, Wuxi Textile Workers University, Wuxi Textile Industry School and Wuxi textile workers professional school were merged into Wuxi Light Industry University.
In May 1996, Wuxi University of light industry passed the national "211 Project" preliminary examination.
In 1998, Wuxi University of light industry was transferred from China Federation of light industry to Ministry of education as a national key university.
In 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Suzhou Chemical Power Research Institute, formerly under the Ministry of light industry, was incorporated into Wuxi University of light industry.
Jiangnan University
Jiangnan University is a private Jiangnan University founded in Wuxi by Rong Desheng, a Chinese national industrialist, in October 1947.
In July 1947, the Preparatory Office of private Jiangnan University was established, and it was decided to establish three colleges of Arts, agriculture and science and technology. In August, the Ministry of education of the national government approved the board of directors of private Jiangnan University to file a case, taking shenmaoxin office in Beitang, Wuxi as its office address. On August 12, the board of directors of the school was approved by the Ministry of education of the national government.
In 1952, when the departments were adjusted, the departments of former private Jiangnan University were merged into Nanjing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Yangzhou and other universities. The departments of private Jiangnan University were merged and abolished.
In October 1980, Wuxi Municipal People's government decided to establish the Preparatory Committee of Wuxi University, which enrolled 522 students.
In January 1981, the Jiangsu provincial government approved the establishment of Wuxi Vocational University on the basis of Wuxi University. Wuxi Vocational University is a full-time university under the municipal government. In that year, it enrolled 209 students and officially opened by Wuxi No.37 middle school.
In August 1982, he moved to the new school site at No. 100, Liangxi road.
In March 1983, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Wuxi Vocational University and Wuxi workers University were approved to jointly run schools, implementing two brands and one team.
In July 1984, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province approved Wuxi Vocational University to be renamed Wuxi University.
On July 1, 1985, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's government, Wuxi University was renamed Jiangnan University.
In 1995, the State Education Commission approved the admission of foreign students.
From August 1993 to March 1996, Mashan branch of Jiangnan University, Jiangyin branch of Jiangnan University, Yixing branch of Jiangnan University, Xishan Branch of Jiangnan University and Meiyuan normal branch of Jiangnan University were established one after another, and they enrolled students in the name of Jiangnan University.
In April 1996, the State Education Commission approved Jiangnan University to be upgraded to an undergraduate university and renamed Jiangnan University.
On June 13, 2000, the Provincial Academic Degree Committee issued a document approving the University's right to confer bachelor's degree.
Wuxi Institute of Education
In September 1955, Wuxi middle school teachers' spare time training school was founded.
In March 1961, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial Department of education, it was renamed Wuxi teachers training college.
During the cultural revolution, teacher training stopped.
In February 1970, the college was closed and its original address was changed to Wuxi No.15 middle school.
In August 1973, with the approval of Wuxi Municipal People's government, Wuxi teachers' training school was established by borrowing Wuxi normal school.
In February 1978, the 15th middle school was abolished and the original system of Wuxi teachers' training college was restored.
In April 1981, approved by the people's Government of Jiangsu Province, Wuxi teachers' training college was officially recognized as a normal college, enjoying the same treatment as a normal college.
In July 1983, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's government, it was reported to the Ministry of education for the record and renamed Wuxi Institute of education.
In June 1990, Wuxi Institute of education moved from the workers' Cultural Palace to No. 80, qianrong Road, at the foot of Shunke mountain in Meiyuan. The original school building was transferred to Wuxi radio and Television University. No. 20, Chongning Road, became the branch of Wuxi Institute of education, mainly engaged in in in-service teacher training and primary and secondary school head training.
In 1998, Wuxi Municipal People's government decided to establish Wuxi Normal University by optimizing and reorganizing Wuxi normal school and Luoshe normal school in Jiangsu Province on the basis of Wuxi Institute of education.
In 2000, the Ministry of education, Jiangsu Province and Wuxi City decided to implement the new combination of three universities after many studies on the reform of higher education management system in Wuxi City.
After the merger
In January 2001, approved by the Ministry of education, Wuxi University of light industry, Jiangnan University and Wuxi Institute of education merged to form Jiangnan University.
On August 1, 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the former Wuxi campus of Donghua University was integrated into Jiangnan University.
In 2006, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results. In the same year, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.
In 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Jiangnan University and Suzhou University formally signed an agreement to transfer the renovation system of the Institute of light industrial chemical power supply under Jiangnan University to Suzhou University.
In June 2010, it was selected into the first batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education.
In May 2011, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education. In October, Wuxi Municipal government and Jiangnan University jointly established Wuxi Medical College of Jiangnan University.
In October 2014, the University won the title of "2012-2014 National College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan implementation advanced unit".
In 2015, the university accepted the examination and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of education.
In December 2016, Jiangnan University was selected as the "National University practice education innovation and entrepreneurship base".
In September 2017, Jiangnan University was selected as the national "world-class discipline construction university". In October, Jiangnan University cooperated with Yixing Municipal People's government to build Yixing Graduate School of Jiangnan University. In the same year, the University was rated as "national innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.
In February 2019, the University was recognized by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of Universities' scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases.
