Zhengding, known as Changshan County and Zhending Prefecture in ancient times, has always been the seat of county, prefecture, road and prefecture. Therefore, Zhengding County has both the government Confucian temple and the county Confucian temple. This picture shows the Dacheng Hall of the county Confucian temple, which is the earliest existing Dacheng Hall of the Confucian temple in China. In 1933, Mr. Liang Sicheng, an architectural educator, made it a relic of the late Tang and Five Dynasties. It used to be a Buddhist temple. In 1374, it was changed into a temple and a Buddhist hall into a Dacheng hall. The Dougong of Dacheng hall is simple and huge. It is directly placed on the top of the column without Pu Bai Fang, maintaining the important characteristics of early architecture.
From May 1997 to May 1998, the government carried out rescue reinforcement and maintenance of Dacheng hall.
Historical records
According to the records in the dictionary of Chinese places of interest and the Chinese Range Rover, the existing Dacheng Hall of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province was rebuilt during the reign of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty and Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty. In this way, the existing Dacheng Hall of the Zhengding Confucian temple is five or six centuries earlier than the existing Dacheng Hall of the Confucius Temple in Qufu.
Zhengding Confucian temple was built in 1374, the seventh year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty. According to historical records, the Confucian temple sits in the north and south. The original buildings are Zhaobi, lingxingmen, panchi, Jimen, Dacheng hall, Chongsheng temple, Wenchang Pavilion, Xiangxian temple, Minghuan temple, Xingwen Pavilion, Yilu, limen, etc. The main existing buildings are Zhaobi, Jimen, Dacheng hall and dongxiwei. Investigation and appraisal
Dacheng hall is the main hall of the Confucian temple, with a single eaves resting on the top of the mountain. It is five rooms wide and three rooms deep. The tile top is gently extended, and the bucket arch is simple and large. Its structure maintains the characteristics of early architecture. According to the investigation and identification of Liang Sicheng, an expert in ancient architecture in China in the 1930s, the appearance of the hall is very similar to the buildings in the murals of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and should be built in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties. It was originally a temple, and it was changed into a temple and a Buddhist hall into a Dacheng hall in Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty.
In 1991, Luo Zhewen, an expert on ancient architecture from the State Administration of cultural relics, inspected the hall and thought that it should be the earliest existing Dacheng Hall of Confucian temple in China. It has been built for a long time and is of high value, and can be called the oldest Confucian temple in China. In 1996, the Dacheng Hall of the county Confucian temple was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
Reinforcement maintenance
In 1997, Zhengding County Cultural Relics Preservation office invested more than 700000 yuan to repair the Confucian temple, restored the original appearance of the main hall, renovated the East and West verandas, and added the statues of Confucius, Si Pei and 12 philosophers according to the Confucian temple in Qufu.

In 2012, the Cultural Heritage Protection Institute set up the "National School" in the Confucian temple. Through holding activities such as "collective worship of the most saints and ancestors", "interpretation of disciple rules" and "memorial ceremony for Confucius", the school interprets the culture of traditional Chinese culture and makes the world experience the infinite charm brought by traditional Chinese culture.
