Guangxi Natural Museum

The Natural Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is an institution directly under the Department of culture of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is listed as a national key Museum by the State Administration of cultural relics. It is also one of the two provincial natural museums in China's western development strategy. It is now the National Science Popularization Education base. There are more than 30000 natural specimens of plants, animals, rocks, minerals, paleontological fossils, etc. It is characterized by the collection, research and display of abundant fossils of the giant panda Stegodon fauna, non-ferrous metal minerals and rare and rare earth metal minerals, as well as rare specimens of animals and plants such as white headed langur, Yaoshan crocodile lizard, Camellia chrysantha, Alsophila spinulosa and Cathaya argyrophylla.

Jurisdictional subordination

The museum, formerly known as the natural science department of Guangxi Provincial Museum established on July 1, 1934, was opened to the public on New Year's day in 1989. It is subordinate to the Department of culture of the autonomous region.

Introduction to the library

The building area of Guangxi Natural Museum is 2000 square meters. The collection includes natural specimens such as plants, animals, rock minerals and paleontological fossils. It is characterized by the collection, research and display of abundant fossils of the giant panda xiphodonta fauna, fish, dinosaurs, paleoanthropology, non-ferrous metal minerals, rare metal minerals, and rare specimens of animals and plants such as white headed langur, Yaoshan crocodile lizard, qingtianshu, Jinhua tea, Alsophila spinulosa, Cathaya argyrophylla, etc.

Collection works

Most of the researches on new genera and new species of vertebrates and plants were completed by the professionals of the museum, and some were completed in cooperation with the professionals of other scientific research institutions. Most of the research papers have been published in Acta Paleovertebrate, Acta phytotaxonomica and scientific report No. 35, 1984 of Japanese whale Institute. A few papers have been selected for publication. In addition, a brief introduction is also compiled in the museum.

Brandt's Whale

Survival age: Modern

Collection place: Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

Morphological characteristics: Bryon whale, belonging to baleen whale family. Adult body length can reach 11.5 ~ 14.5 meters, weight can reach 12 ~ 20 tons. It is mainly distributed in tropical, subtropical and some temperate waters. It is a rare species.

dinosaur egg

Collection place: Henan Province

Morphological features: the best of dinosaur fossils. The egg is round or oval, the eggshell is broken, the eggshell surface is slightly rough, and the surface is not decorated. The thickness of eggshell is about 2 mm.

Morphological characteristics: belongs to the vertebrates in the class teleost Cypriniformes. They are small and spindle shaped.

The highest height of the body is near the dorsal fin. Body height is about one third of body length. Big eyes, short kisses.

Morphological characteristics: long necked bimodal aquatic reptiles. S-type dorsal rib with small head, long neck and significant enlargement.
