Introduction to the park
There are two natural lakes in Phoenix Park. In the zoo, swans and pelicans are on the water. Although it has gone through several centuries of changes, it still retains the characteristics of Luyuan in the 17th century. On the outside of the park, there is a gorge covered with dense trees. Close to the city center, there is a 15 acre plain of green grass, where hundreds of fawns are naturally kept. There are many roads in the park, including the Irish presidential palace and the U.S. ambassador's residence.
Evolution of construction
The park was originally a deer park built by the then governor Duke Ormond in 1663. It was intended to cater to the King Charles II and some dignitaries in Dublin. After several centuries of changes, it still retains the characteristics of deer garden in the 17th century.
In 1979, Pope Paul II came here to preach a sermon. At that time, nearly one third of the population of the country went to see and listen to the sermon. In the same year, the Irish government built a huge cross in the center of the park to commemorate this important religious activity.
After several centuries of changes, the park still retains the characteristics of deer park in the 17th century. Phoenix sounds like finniskk in Celtic, which means clear water and green grass. The British call it Phoenix Park, and it has been handed down to this day. Although the park was once a luxury place for the kings, now it belongs to the public. The natural environment and groups of reindeer bring happiness to tens of thousands of tourists.
Architecture in the park
The residence of the president of Ireland is in the park. The United States is the only country lucky enough to have his embassy in Phoenix Park. It is said that many of the founders of the United States are Irish immigrants.
One of the landmarks of Phoenix Park is the monument of author Wellesley (1769.5.1-1852.9.14). The monument, 205 feet high, is the tallest monument in Europe. The Irish Born general led the British army to defeat Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo and was awarded the title of "Duke of Wellington". On the monument is a relief of the battle of Waterloo in 1815.
