history
Tangyue memorial archways are located on the road of Tangyue village, more than 10 Li to the west of Huicheng (Shexian county), Huizhou Prefecture. There are seven memorial archways, which are arranged in the order of loyalty, filial piety, chastity and righteousness. There are three in Ming Dynasty and four in Qing Dynasty. It outlines the general situation of "loyalty, filial piety and righteousness" ethics in feudal society. The origins of the seven archways are as follows:
1. Bao can's filial piety workshop: it was built in the 13th year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty. Bao can, who was well versed in philosophy, was very filial to his mother. When his 70 year old mother had sores on her feet and medical treatment failed for many years, he sucked the sores day and night to get rid of the poison. He healed in less than ten days. His filial piety was moving. He was chased by the imperial court as the right servant of the Ministry of war, and was honored by Jianfang. The archway is carved with high relief techniques, such as lion rolling embroidered ball and other patterns, with the words "honor filial piety to Bao can, the right servant of the Ministry of war".
2. Cixiaolifang: it was built in the 14th year of Hongzhi in the early Ming Dynasty. It's a tribute to Bao Zongyan and his father and son who were captured by rebel Li Shida and threatened to kill one of them during the period of Deyou in Song Dynasty. Bao shousun rushed forward to die on behalf of his father, while his father Bao Zongyan asked to use his own head in exchange for his son's life. Father and son in the face of life and death, father and son filial piety. Cixiaoli square was made by Emperor Yongle of Ming Dynasty.
3. Bao Wenling's wife Wang's chastity and filial piety Square: built in 1776, it is a chastity and chastity square to honor Bao Wenling's wife Wang. Wang lost his husband to observe the festival when he was only 25 years old, until he died at the age of 45. The inscription "Yazhen Quanxiao" on the stone square praises Wang's spirit of observing the festival until his death, and praises him for not only observing the festival, but also painstakingly raising an orphan for Bao Wenling.
4. Leshan Haoshi Square: it was built in 1820, the 25th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty. In the 10th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty [1805], when the flood was overflowing, Bao Shufang led the merchants to donate 60000 stones of rice and 40000 stones of wheat for disaster relief, and then donated another 3 million liang of silver to fund the water control project. His son, Bao Junzhi, is a father and has many good deeds. The governor played the deeds of Bao's father and son to the imperial court, and the emperor graciously approved the construction of "charity" or "righteousness" square.
5. Bao Wenyuan succeeded Wu's chastity and filial piety workshop: it was built in 1787, the 52nd year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty. The Wu's chastity was praised as a "heroic" chastity workshop. She is the sequel of Bao Wenyuan. Wu married Bao Wenyuan at the age of 22. He was widowed at the age of 29. He went through hardships and hardships and brought up Bao Wenyuan's ex-wife's children. Therefore, he was praised as "thrifty in three winters" and "keeping a thread of pulse" on the plaque of the memorial archway.
6. Bao Fengchang's filial son's Square: it was built in 1797, the second year of Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. Because Bao Fengchang's father was away from home in the chaos of war, there was no news for a long time. When he was 14 years old, he begged along the way, searched for his father in four townships, and finally met his father in Yanmen ancient temple. His mother had been ill for a long time, so she took the stock as medicine to treat her. She also went to Tonglu and risked her life to collect herbs on the precipice and finally cured her. It has won the reputation of "Tianjian Jingcheng" and "Renqin Zhenxiao".
7. Bao Xiangxian shangshufang: it was first built in 1622, and rebuilt in 1795, the 60th year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. The eight characters "presented to Bao Xiangxian, the shangshufang of the Ministry of industry" on the archway is a "zhongzifang" honoring Bao Xiangxian. Because of his great achievements in pacifying the rebellion in Yunnan and Guangdong, the memorial archway is engraved with "Ming Huan Si Lun" and "Guan Lian Tai Dou" on both sides, which is a high honor given by the royal family.
