Jiexiu Dongyue Temple
Jiexiu Dongyue Temple is located in the northeast of Xiaojin village, Mianshan Town, Jiexiu City, Shanxi Province. The temple courtyard is located in the north and south, with a two-way courtyard layout, covering an area of 3146 square meters. On the central axis, from south to north, there are the screen wall, the mountain gate, the stage, the pavilion, the main hall and the back bedroom hall. On both sides are the bell tower, the drum tower and the East and West Wing rooms. There are 39 painted sculptures and 17 steles in the temple. There are complete and exquisite murals in the gate, main hall and bedroom hall.
On May 25, 2005, Houtu Temple of Jiexiu was selected into the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Historical evolution
The date of its establishment is unknown, so it can be inferred that it was about the Tang Dynasty.
From the Yuan Dynasty to the seventh year of the Yuan Dynasty (1270 A.D.).
In 1590 A.D., under the leadership of Wang Yikui, the then governor of Jiexiu, the whole temple was rebuilt and expanded.
Qing Daoguang 24 years (1844) to repair.
Xianfeng ten years (1860) to repair.
It was repaired in 1995 after the founding of the people's Republic of China.
In May 2006, it was announced as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
architectural composition
On the central axis, from south to north, there are the shadow wall, the mountain gate, the stage, the Pavilion (Hall), the main hall and the back bedroom Hall (Notre Dame Palace). On both sides, there are the bell tower, the drum tower and the East and West Wing rooms.
Screen wall
Brick shadow wall, single eaves Xie hilltop, on the construction of imitation wood Dou Gong 7, plane "one" shape.
Shanmen
The gate is three rooms wide and four rafters deep, with a single eaves and a hard glazed tile roof. It is carved in the shape of dragon, elephant trunk and sparrow, with a drum mirror style column base and two stone lions in front. In the Ming Dynasty, there were two generals named "hem ha" in the second room. On both sides, there were eight shaped shadow walls, gray tube, tile and cloth top, glass trimming, and the kiss of a bird held high, which were vivid and gorgeous.
stage
The stage is three rooms wide, four rafters deep, six purlins rolling shed, hard top, eaves in front, Shige door in the middle facing step, which leads straight into the backstage, two rows of decorative architraves are built in the backstage, dragon head sparrow is carved through, and lotus shaped vertical column is used. The carving is extremely fine.
Xiandian
Xiandian is built on the "convex" brick platform, surrounded by corridors on all sides, with three wide faces and five deep rafters. It has a single eaves, a rolling shed roof and five stepped arches. In front of the eaves, there is an open space on the top of the hill. The top of the building is made of gray tube, tile and cloth. The glass is cut and the animals are all ready.
main hall
The main hall is built on the brick platform, with five wide faces and six deep rafters. It is surrounded by corridors, double eaves and top of the mountain. It has peacock blue glass ridge brake, beast kissing and glass trimming. It has seven purlins and three or five steps of Dougong. The material is thick, vigorous and simple. The style of Yuan Dynasty still exists. The pillar base of the corridor is a combination of xumizuo and drum mirror, connecting with some carved animal faces, and each room is equipped with doors and windows.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame palace is three rooms wide and one room deep, with a single eaves and a hard top. The hall is dedicated to the virgin.
bell tower and drum tower
The bell tower and drum tower are symmetrical on the central axis, with a four purlin rolling shed roof, with a square plane and a height of about 7.9 meters.
East West Wing room
The East and West Wing rooms are brick cave buildings, with eaves on the front and flat roof on the back. They are five rooms wide and one room deep. There are more than ten Ming and Qing colored sculptures in the room.
Local customs
Every year on the 10th day of the first month of the first lunar month, Dongyue Temple holds sacrificial activities. On the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, temple fairs are held. People from many surrounding villages come to participate. During the sacrificial activities and temple fairs, the stage of Dongyue Temple will keep singing, which is an important day for local villagers.
