Wah Fu estate
Huafu estate is one of the most famous public housing estates in Hong Kong. It is located in waterfall Bay, Southern District of Hong Kong Island, adjacent to Beisha Bay, Chifu garden, chicken cage Bay, etc. Huafu estate was completed in five phases. The first phase was completed in November 1967. At the peak, the population was 50000, and now it is only half of the peak.
In 1963, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (now the Hong Kong Housing Authority) announced the construction of Wah Fu estate, one of the 10 low rent housing estates planned at that time.
On September 27, 1968, the then governor of Hong Kong, Sir David, officiated at the opening ceremony of Wah Fu estate. It was also to celebrate the completion of the society's 25000th unit on the ninth floor of Wah Fu Wah Mei house.
Estate planning
Wah Fu estate was the first estate in Hong Kong to appear in the form of a town with its own shopping malls. At that time, it was a pioneering undertaking. In addition to the facilities of markets, parking lots, schools and so on, there was also a library, the Pok Fu Lam public library, which was the second Hong Kong Public Library on Hong Kong Island after the city hall library at that time.
Building design
Huaxing building, Huasheng Building, Huatai Building and Huachang building, which were completed between 1970 and 1971, are the first "twin tower" buildings in Hong Kong, which are different from the former "central corridor" and "terrace connected" buildings. In Huafu estate, the buildings near the seaside are mainly low buildings, while the buildings far away from the seaside are double tower buildings with more than 20 floors. This design layout enables more residents to have sea view.

deficiencies
At the beginning of its completion, Wah Fu estate did not attract many people to apply. The reason is that the estate is far away from the urban area and the traffic is inconvenient. In addition, the original site of the estate was a mass grave during the Japanese rule period in Hong Kong, which made many superstitious people unwilling to live in the estate. Later, the government wanted to make a publicity film called "Huafu new village" to attract some people to live in.
The 26 problematic public housing scandals exposed in the 1980s led the HA to discover that there were 577 problematic public housing units in Hong Kong, including many buildings in Wah Fu estate. Due to the substandard concrete, the buildings have structural problems. Huale building, Huakang building and Huachang building need to be supported by large steel frames. Some floors of these buildings need to be closed for giant steel frames, and large-scale maintenance works need to be carried out to replace steel and concrete.
