The air corridor is located in the wangtianshu scenic area of Xishuangbanna. It is a suspension bridge made of steel wire and nylon rope with the help of the trunks of dozens of wangtianshu trees. Because the suspension bridge is 34 meters high, walking on it is like walking in the air, so it is called air corridor. The total length of the air corridor is 2.5 km. The air corridor connects the primeval forests on both sides of the road, and you can enjoy the exotic scenery of tropical rainforest in a broad view. In addition, the forest also built a more than 1000 meters stone tour road and air corridor, forming a three-dimensional circular tour line on and under the forest.
Because it's a long way to go, not many people go, and the natural scenery is well maintained. There is also a lovely open-air mountain spring swimming pool. The water is clear and cool, and the running water keeps circulating. Many local people bring their children to swim, so remember to bring swimsuits! There is no place to eat there. You need to bring your own dry food.
Xishuangbanna air corridor
Located in the original wet rain forest 20 km east of Mengla County, there is a 40-70 meter high Wangtian tree. The "air corridor" erected on the Wangtian tree is 500 meters long. You can enjoy the exotic scenery of tropical rainforest in a broad view.
Wangtianshu scenic spot is located in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 134km away from Jinghong City and 60km away from Mohan, a national first-class port. It is the only oasis at 21 degrees north latitude on the earth and the core scenic spot of tropical rainforest National Park.
Air corridor
"The air corridor was initially set up to facilitate scientific research and observation of wild rodents in the tropical rainforest." Huang Jianguo, deputy director of the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve Administration, said that at the end of 1989, the Kunming Institute of ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the American Society for comprehensive conservation of nature jointly carried out a scientific research project and decided to set up an air corridor in the forest located in the bubeng area of the nature reserve with the US funding.
As early as 1973, Mengla County Forestry Bureau found giant trees more than 70 meters high in this forest. In the following years, these trees were identified as Wangtian trees by experts from Southwest Forestry College and Kunming Forestry College. As wangtianshu is one of the iconic plants of tropical rain forest, the forest in Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve was finally recognized as tropical rain forest by the world authority. Later, when the China project of the American Society for comprehensive conservation of nature prepared to set up the air corridor here, they did not choose the already famous Wangtian tree, but chose the deep forest about two kilometers away from the current air corridor. But at that time, it was very difficult to transport the erection equipment imported from the United States into the deep forest, so the idea of erection had to be abandoned. Finally, it was planned to be erected in a new location near the highway.
Feng Wenchang, who lives on the edge of the nature reserve, was only 30 when he set up the air corridor. According to him, in addition to ecological protection experts, the National Nature Reserve Administration and the bubeng Management Institute have sent personnel to participate in the laying of air corridors. It is the local villagers who climb the Wangtian tree and send the paving materials to high altitude for construction. "Because we grew up in the forest, climbing trees is nothing to do with us." But Feng Wenchang said that at that time, it would take him about three hours to climb up a 40 meter tall tree with no branches to climb. Because the thick trunk of Wangtian tree can only be surrounded by several people, and the smooth trunk has nothing to work on, they have to use a metal ladder to tie the ladder to the trunk. When people step on the ladder to climb up, they connect the ladder one by one, fix it and then climb up, and finally transport materials through the ladder. It took two months to set up the first section of 70 meters between the two Wangtian trees. Later, it took more than a year to build the air corridor, which is the tallest in China and even Asia and is known as "the tallest in the world and the first canopy corridor in China".
