Xinhui Zoo

Xinhui Zoo, built in 1958, is located in the north gate of Huicheng Town, with Guifeng mountain scenic spot in the north and transit highway in the west, covering an area of 11.62 hectares, of which the lake area is 7545 square meters. The zoo has beautiful scenery, warm in winter and cool in summer, green trees and green grass, which is known as "North Garden Scenery". The zoo was relocated in 2010 and is now a free park.

History Introduction

In 1961, a 17.97 hectare Xinhui Zoo was built in Jinshan (tuming) on the north side of Mashan, including lake surface, arch bridge, banshanting, peak exhibition hall, monkey cage, bear cage, lion cage, bird Gallery, plum blossom deer farm and a series of small animal facilities. "

Xinhui Zoo is the first county-level zoo in China, the second zoo in Guangdong Province, the only zoo in Wuyi, and the popular science education base in Jiangmen City.

Barren mountain becomes a park

In the 1950s, Xinhui was waiting for all kinds of business to flourish. Because Jinshan on the side was outside the old city wall, even the area of Beimen community was barren mountains, and there were few people at ordinary times.

In 1958, Li Junfa, then Secretary of the Party committee of Guangzhou Zoo, returned to his hometown xinhuisi to do something for his hometown. He found that Jinshan on the side of Guifeng mountain facing the lake was very suitable for building a zoo, so he suggested building a zoo in his hometown, and said that he could allocate a number of small animals from Guangzhou Zoo to Xinhui.

At that time, Dang Xiangmin, the Secretary of the county Party committee, attached great importance to this matter. He found his best engineer to design it, mobilized cadres and the masses to participate in voluntary labor, transformed the rotten land on the mountain into an animal exhibition area, dug the low-lying paddy field into an artificial lake, and after greening and beautifying, Xinhui built a large-scale zoo. The photo and design of the entrance to the zoo are also included in the collection of national parks.

As for the sources of animals, some of them are donated by Guangzhou Zoo, while the other part is purchased from the market.

The rise and fall of 50 years

During the cultural revolution, Xinhui Zoo was regarded as a product of "closure, capital and repair", which killed animals including black bears and destroyed the park.

Until 1973, Xinhui Zoo rebuilt, expanded the botanical garden, restored the walls, stone embankments, pavilions, roads and animal cages.

During the boom period of the 1980s and 1990s, there were more than 100000 tourists a year. But since 2000, zoos have gradually lost their appeal. At the end of 2008, after the news of the relocation of Xinhui Zoo came out, the popularity of the zoo increased greatly. According to statistics, nearly 1000 people come to visit the park every day in recent weekends, and there is also a landscape that has never been seen in line for more than 10 years.

Introduction to the park

The main body of the whole zoo is Jinshan, which used to be to the north of Mashan. Now the animal exhibition area on the mountain has animal cages, ostrich cages, hundred bird cages, peacock cages, bird corridor, funny garden, monkey mountain, beaver Park, deer farm, etc. There are three lions (mother and son) and black bears in the beast cage.

On display are ponies, African goats, Mali sheep, turkeys and other domesticated animals. Visitors can amuse animals from the low fence. There is a small lake at the foot of the mountain and a white pigeon tower on the island in the middle of the lake. You can go boating on the lake to watch the wings of pigeons and the fun of white geese and wild ducks swimming in the water. There is also a botanical garden in the park. There are all kinds of rare trees and exotic flowers for tourists to watch.

After 51 years of development, there are more than 350 animals of more than 40 species on display in the park, including the world's second-class protected animals, African lion, national first-class protected animals: Green Peacock, camel, sika deer, bear monkey, python, etc., and national second-class protected animals: mandarin duck, parrot, rhesus monkey, big green monkey, unicorn tortoise, owl, etc.

Due to the better design when the park was built, Xinhui Zoo has not undergone any major renovation since 1973, but it still does not feel very backward after decades.

The zoo is full of trees. The environment is beautiful and the air is fresh. Tens of thousands of people visit the zoo every holiday.

Sorry to move

In early April 2010, Xinhui Zoo, which has a history of nearly 50 years, began to move quietly. As the new site of the zoo in Gudou has not yet been built, more than 350 animals of 40 species will be temporarily placed in an abandoned primary school in the new site within 10 days. At this year's two sessions, some CPPCC members proposed that the relevant departments should organize an investigation on the zoo's problems as soon as possible while the zoo has not been relocated. However, according to the relevant departments, the existing animals of Xinhui Zoo were bundled, and the license of Xinhui Zoo was sold at a low price of 100000 yuan around November 2009.

The zoo moved without warning

"The whole relocation process will take about 10 days." At about 9 a.m. on April 1, the staff of Xinhui District Zoo began to anaesthetize the first batch of "relocated households" in the zoo. More than 10 deer were transported to the new site of the zoo in Gudou. According to Lin Yuanchang of the zoo, although the new site of Gudou zoo has not yet been built, authorities have transformed an abandoned primary school in the new site into a temporary residence for animals. During the construction of the new site, the animals will no longer be visited by tourists, but will still be taken care of by special personnel.

"Start moving today?" Although there are not many tourists, the staff's action of catching deer has caused the onlookers to question the zoo's sudden relocation without warning.

350 animals have been sold for a long time

On September 4, 2009, Xinhui District property rights trading center once published a notice on asset disposal: Xinhui Zoo's existing animals are bound with the license of Xinhui Zoo, which is to be transferred to a company in Jiangmen City for 100000 yuan, and those who have objection to the above asset disposal are required to contact Xinhui District property rights trading center in the current month. At that time, the news did not attract the attention of the public, and since then, the center has not released any relevant information again.

Although some people raised objections, and Wang Jiansheng, a member of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, proposed to organize an investigation and demonstration of the zoo as soon as possible and listen to the opinions of experts, citizens and deputies to the National People's Congress at the two sessions in 2010, the zoo and its license were "transferred" as early as around November 2009.

"According to the market price, more than 350 animals will cost at least 300000 yuan, not to mention the zoo license." An expert from the Forestry Department of Jiangmen City, who did not want to be named, pointed out that the zoo is worth more than 100000 yuan only by transferring animals.

The conductor of Xinhui Zoo also confirmed that the operation of the zoo has been in good condition, and there is little pressure to continue to operate. Therefore, after the relevant departments confirmed that the zoo had already been transferred, most people thought that the zoo had been "sold at a low price".

It is reported that after the new private zoo moves to Gudou, it is planned to build a part of the new local tourism content, and finally build a new tourist attraction complementary to Gudou resort.

Reconstruction of original site

There is a preliminary plan for the renovation project of Xinhui Zoo, which has attracted much attention. The zoo will be transformed into an open leisure park mainly for plant viewing. A total of 10 scenic spots have been added in the whole renovation project.

The original site of Xinhui Zoo will be built into a fine park focusing on plant appreciation, and an open park integrating the functions of eco-tourism, popular science education, cultural promotion, rare flower reproduction and protection, leisure and fitness. Focus on the development of waterfront viewing projects, and appropriately retain some of the buildings for renovation, so as to give new use functions and ornamental value, so as to enhance the cultural taste of the park.

The newly added scenic spots mainly include: looking for pylorus, zhiyuanmen, wood plastic folding bridge, viewing platform, natural revetment, jinxiukui Township, hydrophilic steps, landscape wharf, shade plant area, small leisure square, etc.

Among them, "search pylorus" and "know garden gate" are in the old site. In this reconstruction, two gates will be renovated, and the original structure will be retained. The wood plastic folding bridge is built on the west side of Yuanzhong lake, changing the original mud bank into wood plastic material; the viewing platform is the same transformation idea, adding a semicircular open-air Pavilion on the right side of the lake for visitors to view by the lake.
