Xingguo Temple Pagoda in Jiangyin

Xingguo temple tower is located on the west side of the intersection of South Street and Zhongshan South Road in Jiangyin City. Built in the Northern Song Dynasty (796-983), it was originally a seven level floating picture of Taiping temple, commonly known as "Xingguo temple tower". The body of the tower is simple and dignified, the outer wall is octagonal, the cornice is curved, the inner wall is square, and the interlayer is alternate. There are corridors on each floor of the tower. Inside the tower, there are wooden stairs at the corner. You can have a panoramic view of the ancient city of Jiangyin. From the end of the Yuan Dynasty to the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the first pagoda of Xingguo temple was destroyed by war. In the orthodox period of Ming Dynasty, the tower was restored as it was, and the tower was raised to nine stories. In 1817, the wood and top of the tower were burned, but the brick tower still stands. On January 26, 1925, the Zhifeng warlord was fighting in Jiangyin. The Fengjun White Russian Gunners who occupied the fort of Huangshan fired on the besieged city of Zhijun. One shot hit the top of the remnant tower. Half of the top of the tower was cut off and only the southwest side was left, thus forming a pen point.

After liberation, the government repaired the pagodas of Xingguo Temple several times. In July 1985, the people's Government of Jiangyin County allocated 300000 yuan to repair the pagodas. The pagodas were repaired by digging, mending and joining. Six steel bars were girdled around the waist to reinforce the pagodas and eliminate dangers, thus maintaining the original appearance of Xingguo temple. The height of the tower is 42. It is 22 meters, 18 degrees north of the top center, 0.249 meters inclined, and 1.3 meters horizontally from the center. Below the 6th floor, it is still the original of Song Dynasty.

Xingguo pagoda has witnessed the history of Jiangyin ancient city for thousands of years. Nowadays, Jiangyin people regard it as a symbol of the ancient city of Jiangyin and the indomitable spirit of Jiangyin people
