Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is the second oldest institution of higher education in Hong Kong. It is a public university with Christian educational tradition. It takes "holistic education" as its educational goal and ideal, and its motto is "faith and practice". According to the 2011 QS World University Rankings, HKBU ranked 243rd among the world's best universities. In the 2012 QS Asian university rankings, HKBU ranked 48th among the best universities in Asia. In 2010, Hong Kong Baptist University ranked 111th in the times higher education global university rankings, making it one of the top 200 universities in the world for the first time. School history
The predecessor of Hong Kong Baptist University was Hong Kong Baptist College founded in 1956. It was renamed Hong Kong Baptist College in 1972. The first president was Dr. Lin Zifeng. The monument was inscribed by famous educator, calligrapher, litterateur and Professor Han Jiaao of Tsinghua University.
At present, the university has eight colleges: School of Arts, School of business administration, School of traditional Chinese medicine, School of communication, School of science, School of visual arts, School of Social Sciences and School of continuing education
. The first six colleges offer more than 40 undergraduate majors and more than 30 higher degree courses. The university has nearly 500 full-time teaching staff and 6000 students, including more than 4300 undergraduates, more than 4500 postgraduates and nearly 200 international exchange students. The Institute of continuing education offers associate degree, bachelor's degree and master's degree courses, as well as certificate / Diploma and short-term refresher courses, with 50000 students per year.
At the beginning of its establishment, the institute only offered diploma courses in the departments of foreign literature, sociology, mathematics, civil engineering and business administration. Since 1986, the Institute has offered degree courses. In November 1994, the Legislative Council passed the relevant Ordinance, and the Hong Kong Baptist College was officially upgraded to a university, becoming one of the eight higher education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee of the government and awarding degrees.
Since its inception, the Hong Kong Baptist University has been adding a number of innovative courses to meet the development of Hong Kong society. The famous courses include communication, traditional Chinese medicine, social work, human resource management, politics and international relations. HKBU's courses in China studies, sports management, European studies, translation and humanities are also the first in Hong Kong.
In addition, the kindergarten affiliated to the Hong Kong Baptist University (located in Kowloon Tong) and the Wong Kam Fai primary and secondary school affiliated to the Hong Kong Baptist University (located in Shek Mun, Sha Tin) are also affiliated institutions of the Hong Kong Baptist University.
In 2005, the Hong Kong Baptist University and Beijing Normal University established the Beijing Normal University Hong Kong Baptist University Joint International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, mainland China. The students were awarded the bachelor's degree certificate of Hong Kong Baptist University upon graduation.
In 2007, the Hong Kong Baptist University enrolled 9-year-old Shen Shijun in the bachelor's and master's degree courses in mathematics, becoming the youngest university student in the history of Hong Kong.
In 2010, the school of Business Administration of Hong Kong Baptist University obtained AACSB certification.
In 2013, the school of Business Administration of Hong Kong Baptist University obtained EQUIS certification and AMBA certification. To become no more than one percent of the world's top three business schools (aacsbequisamba).
In 2014, the Hong Kong Baptist University, together with Nanjing University and Huizhou Municipal People's Government of Guangdong Province, officially launched the construction of "Nanjing University - Huizhou Rao Zongyi College of Hong Kong Baptist University".
In 2016, the school of Business Administration of Hong Kong Baptist University was awarded the dual certification of AACSB and EQUIS for a period of five years, which affirmed the world top status of the school of Business Administration of Hong Kong Baptist University.

To meet the needs of the community, the Baptist University has opened a number of first courses in Hong Kong, including dual degree courses in traditional Chinese medicine of the Baptist University. Graduates can be awarded bachelor's degree in traditional Chinese medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in biomedicine of the Baptist University. Other first courses include bachelor's degree (Hons) in Social Sciences of Chinese Studies of the Baptist University and European Studies of the Baptist University Bachelor (Hons) degree courses, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree courses in translation, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree courses in sports and recreation management, master of Arts degree courses in communication, master of Science degree courses in analytical chemistry, etc.
College of Continuing Education
Founded in 1975, the school of continuing education of Hong Kong Baptist University is one of the seven colleges in the University. The aim of the college is to promote "lifelong learning", to provide various professional and academic courses for people of different ages, and to train talents in various fields in line with the rapid development of society.
The Institute of continuing education has been sparing no effort to design various courses for the public and provide a comprehensive learning ladder, so that the public can more flexibly arrange their own learning plans and learning process. In addition to offering short-term courses, certificates, diplomas, bachelor's and postgraduate courses, the college also offers tailor-made training courses for different government departments and private organizations. Some courses have been added to the list of reimbursable courses under the government continuing education fund.
There are about 35000 students in part-time courses every year, of which 4000 are studying for bachelor's degree or postgraduate courses. In addition to the degree courses offered by the Hong Kong Baptist University, the HKBU has been co operating with a number of overseas universities since 1985. In addition, the college offers more than 300 evening short courses every three semesters, and some of them can obtain certificates or diplomas in combination. On the other hand, the learning mode is flexible, including one class, guidance, intensive research and group study, so as to improve the teaching efficiency and meet the needs of learning.
