A green dragon and a yellow dragon meet here - nananzui is a very important place in Chinese geography, known as "the first corner of China". Because it is the impact zone formed by the confluence of the Yangtze River, the largest river in China, and the Hanjiang River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze River. Some people say that nananzui is the place where China's elixir land is located, which means that it is the place where China's essence is most concentrated.

Nananzui is located near Qingchuan Pavilion in Hanyang, Wuhan. Nananzui is a very important place in Chinese geography, known as "the first corner of China". South bank mouth
Beauty of South Bank mouth
At the south bank mouth of Wuhan, where the Yangtze River and the Han River meet, you will know that even in the heart of the city, you can experience the splendor of the vast sky,
Overlooking the intersection of the two rivers, the south bank mouth is like a pearl held up by two dragons. The south bank mouth has a unique landform, which is quite like Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong and Manhattan in New York. It is also similar to the famous Rhine River and the mose River confluence - "German corner". Therefore, it is also called "China corner".
present situation
At the beginning of 2000, Wuhan municipal Party committee and government made a major decision to build Nan'anzui into a world-class international scenic spot. After two years of demolition, thousands of residents moved out of nananzui. Today's south bank mouth, the scenery is pleasant, green trees in spring, autumn maple leaves like fire. Guishan TV Tower, Qingchuan Hotel and Qingchuan Bridge complement each other, forming a beautiful picture.
The spectacle of "clear distinction between the two rivers"
survey
The uncanny workmanship of nature has not only carved out the peculiar landform of "two rivers divided into three towns" in Wuhan for hundreds of years, but also created the hydrological characteristics of "clear distinction" in the south bank mouth of Hanyang. Since the end of last century, zhutou, which lies at the intersection of the two rivers, has been known as the "eye of the city" of Wuhan. What is the secret of its "clear distinction"? "A ladle scoops up two rivers, half a cup of tea, three Town fragrance". In the center of Wuhan, a modern city, the south bank mouth of Hanyang is facing the Longwang temple in Hankou and the Jiajiang river at wudikou in Wuchang. You can have a panoramic view of the landmark landscapes of the two rivers, the four banks and the three town centers. The Yangtze River, the largest river in Asia, and its largest tributary, the Hanshui River, meet here, forming a majestic and clear "clear distinction", which has attracted countless people's "eyes".
A great blessing given to Jiangcheng by God
There is a sentence in the book of Songs: "Jing is turbid by Wei, which is its origin". "Clear distinction" is an old idiom with a clear figurative line. The Jinghe River originates from Ningxia and flows into the Weihe River from Gansu in Shaanxi. In ancient times, the Jinghe River was clear and the Weihe River was turbid. When the two rivers met, the boundary between them was clear and turbid. Due to the deterioration of soil erosion and other environmental factors in the Yellow River Basin, it is hard for people to see the authentic distinction between the two. Old Wuhan, who has lived in Jiangcheng for a long time, is quite familiar with the "clear distinction" seen in nananzui and Longwang temple.
In fact, the cities at the confluence of the two rivers are not uncommon in the world, such as Vicksburg and Memphis on the Mississippi River, the "father of rivers" in the United States; Chongqing at the confluence of the Yangtze River and Jialing River in China; Shanghai at the confluence of the Yangtze River and Huangpu River; Tongjiang at the confluence of Heilongjiang and Songhua River; Wuzhou at the confluence of Xunjiang and Guijiang river, etc. Unfortunately, either the boundary between the main river and its tributaries is not clear or obvious, or the intersection is not in the center of a mega city with many buildings, or there are no cultural attractions around them to match, which really lacks the "urban landscape" value of nananzui.
The only thing comparable to nananzui is probably the "German corner" of Koblenz, the old German city known as "the pride of the Germanic nation". The Rhine River crossing several European countries and the clear mose River meet here, and its beautiful and mysterious customs of "clear distinction" attract countless tourists. The geographical location of "German corner" and south bank mouth is very similar, even the river direction and the layout of surrounding scenic spots are surprisingly consistent. But Koblenz, a city with a population of only a few hundred thousand, is mainly concentrated in the south of the mose river. The north and east sides of the river are relatively open. "German corner" is actually the sharp triangle where the two rivers intersect, where we can not appreciate the grandeur and magnificence of the metropolis.
It can be seen that the "clear-cut" spectacle of Nan'anzui, who lives in a busy city, is perhaps unique in China and even in the world today. Isn't this the gift of nature to Wuhan?
On the "Mother River" in Jiangcheng
If the Yangtze River is compared to the "father River" of Wuhan, then the Han River is undoubtedly the "Mother River" of Wuhan. Overlooking the geographical framework of Wuhan city from high altitude, it is a big "ten" character composed of water axis mountain system: the water axis is the Yangtze River with "sinking line through north and South"; the mountain system is the East-West trend of Luojia mountain, Xiaohong mountain, Hongshan mountain, Sheshan mountain, Guishan mountain, Meizi mountain, etc. The south bank mouth is just at the intersection of the big "ten", and its formation is inseparable from the Han River.
Hanjiang River, also known as Hanjiang River and Xianghe River, is called Canglang River and Xiashui River in ancient times. In Ningqiang County, Shaanxi Province, there are three sources JuShui River, gazhongshan River and Yudai River, which meander 1532 kilometers to the south bank mouth of Wuhan in the East and join the Yangtze River. The drainage area is 159000 square kilometers. It is one of the ancient birthplaces of Han nationality and Han culture.
The names of Hanyang, Hankou and even Wuhan are closely related to the Han River. In the second year of Daye (606) of Sui Dynasty, Hanjin county was renamed Hanyang county according to the old rule of "water north is Yang". Until the Ming Dynasty, the main road of the Han River entered the river through many lakes in the south of the ancient Hanyang city. At that time, there was only Hanyang, but there was no Hankou. The north of Guishan was still a land of water. At the beginning of Chenghua (1465-1487) in the Ming Dynasty, the lower reaches of the Han River were flooded year after year, and nearly 100 lakes broke their embankments. The largest flood broke between the desilting mouth of Hanyang and the mouth of Guoshi (CI). It went straight down to the East, hydrated with many branches in the north of Guishan, and flowed into the Yangtze River, "splitting" the soil of Hanyang and Hankou, thus changing the geographical state of ancient Hanyang (see the history of Ming Dynasty, geography records) It became the south bank mouth after that.
The Han River flows through Wuhan for about 20.57 kilometers. At the mouth of the south bank, it is common that the water of the river is half turbid and half clear, and the boundary is clear. During the flood season, the waters of the two rivers are often turbulent and noisy, which makes people startled. After the flood season, most of the sun and moon return to the state of "clear-cut". From 1998 to 2002, thousands of houses were demolished in nananzui and its surrounding areas. Strong revetments and scenic spots were built here. The tourism value of its water wonders was highlighted.
The cause of the "clear distinction between the two rivers"
The author has lived in Qingchuan street for 43 years and worked in Qingchuan Street office for more than ten years. He has long been familiar with the "clear distinction" between the two rivers on the south bank. The Yangtze River is muddy and yellow all the year round, so there is no need to talk about it in detail. However, the Han River is green most of the time, with different periods of time (about 240-300 days), different months and seasons, and different degrees of clarity. Is it really irregular? What are the causes?
With doubt, the author visited Xiong Yan'an, an expert of Hanyang District Water Bureau. The "old water affairs" who has been working in the flood control department for 32 years said: there is a certain regularity in the "clear distinction" at the mouth of the south bank, and its causes are mainly in five aspects. First, sediment concentration is the primary factor. When the sediment concentration of the Yangtze River is high, the water will be turbid all the year round. Once the sediment concentration is "saturated", the river will even turn red. The sediment concentration of the Han River is relatively low most of the time, so the Han River is usually much clearer than the Yangtze River. The clear water flows into the turbid water, and the dividing line is naturally obvious. The second is the velocity of water. The faster the velocity is, the higher the sediment concentration is. The Wuhan section of the Yangtze River is not very curved, but the Han River is meandering, and the velocity is relatively slow in non flood season. The sediment in the water settles, and after entering Hanyang, it is "blocked" by several big bends, and the water becomes clear. Third, the water level is different. Most of the time, the water level of the turbid Yangtze River is slightly higher than that of the Han River. In this state, the flow of the Han River is very slow at the mouth of the Yangtze River, which makes the water clear. The greater the "water level difference", the clearer the Han River is, and the clearer the "Jing Wei River" between the two rivers is. The fourth is the difference of weather in the upper reaches of the two rivers. If there are continuous rainstorms in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River (mainly in the Meiyu season), the tributaries will soar, causing mud and sand to fall, and the river will be muddy; if there is no or little rain in the Han River Basin at this time, the degree of clarity will not change much, and the estuary will still be "clear-cut". Fifthly, the occurrence time of flood season is different. In the years with flood, the Yangtze River is mostly in summer and the Han River is mostly in autumn. The flood peaks are usually staggered, so the confluence of the two rivers is often more "distinct" in summer. However, there are exceptions. If the flood peaks of the two rivers "meet" in Wuhan (for example, in the summer of 1983 and 1998), or when the water level of the Yangtze River is low, the "clear distinction" between the two rivers can not be seen in the south bank mouth.
