Gaoxia Pinghu

Gaoxiaping Lake scenic spot is located in Taipingxi Town, Yiling District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, which is the first town in the Three Gorges dam reservoir area. It is connected with Tanziling on the North Bank of the Three Gorges dam. It is composed of many islands, Lake branches, water shorelines of two big bays and two canyons surrounded by gaoxiaping lake formed after the impoundment of the Three Gorges dam. The total area is 87.75 square kilometers, including 15.2 square kilometers of Gangwan lake and 1.5 square kilometers of shoreline Four kilometers. Gaoxia Pinghu is the most magnificent new landscape brought by the construction of the Three Gorges Project. From June 1 to 15, 2003, after the completion of the initial impoundment of the Three Gorges project, the water level in front of the dam increased from 98m above sea level on May 31 to 135m above sea level, and the storage capacity of the Three Gorges Reservoir increased from 2.3 billion cubic meters to 12.3 billion cubic meters. The beautiful scenery of gaoxiaping lake first appeared in Yichang, which became the best view point of gaoxiaping lake. The backwater of the Three Gorges reservoir will reach Fengdu County. Above the dam, a 436 km long channel type Three Gorges reservoir will be formed. The river width of many broad valleys will be increased from 1 km before impoundment to about 3 km. The beautiful and spectacular gaoxiaping lake is displayed in front of the world. The turbulent River in the past is replaced by the rippling lake. Some "hidden in the boudoir" landscapes are displayed in front of tourists. The newly added canyons, lakes, islands, rafting, river sections, karst caves and other new landscapes in the reservoir area are integrated with the original canyons to form a rich content of the new Three Gorges tour. According to incomplete statistics, after the initial impoundment of the Three Gorges project, lakes such as Zigui lake and Baidi lake will be formed in the Three Gorges reach, and islands such as Baidi Island, Shuangjiang island and Huludao will be added to the Three Gorges reach. The construction of the Three Gorges project is divided into three phases, namely, cofferdam power generation, initial operation and later operation, marked by the water level of 135m, 156m and 175m respectively. In 2003 and 2006, the Three Gorges Reservoir achieved the first two phased goals respectively. In 2008 and 2009, the water storage target of 175 meters was tested twice, but it was finally stored to 172.8 meters and 171.43 meters for various reasons. In 2010, with the approval of the national flood control and Drought Relief Headquarters, the 175m experimental water storage officially started at 0:00 on September 10, and successfully reached the expected target of 175m on October 26.

The water storage increased the storage capacity and improved the flood control conditions in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The Three Gorges area will become a gorge type reservoir with a length of more than 200 kilometers, an average width of 1.1 kilometers and a storage capacity of 39.3 billion cubic meters, which can hold 22.15 billion cubic meters of flood, equivalent to the flood storage capacity of four Jingjiang Flood Diversion areas, greatly improving the flood control standard of the Yangtze River. According to statistics, this year alone, the economic benefits of flood control achieved by the Three Gorges Project will reach 26.63 billion yuan. What is more important is to eliminate the "flooding" of the Yangtze River, greatly enhancing people's sense of security in the middle and lower reaches.

With the rise of water level, 26 generating units of the Three Gorges power station have entered the full load operation stage. At present, the daily power generation has reached 438 million kwh. According to reports, the design output of the 26 units of the Three Gorges power station is 18.2 million kilowatts. In addition to sufficient water, the units need a relatively high water head for full load power generation. Under the water level of 175 meters, the average annual generating capacity of the unit will reach 84.7 billion kwh, which is about 10 billion kwh more than that of 156 meters in the past.

At the same time, the impoundment has deepened and widened the upstream channel of the Three Gorges Project and further improved the navigation conditions. The end of the reservoir will reach Chongqing, with an average water depth of about 70 meters. The shipping capacity of Chuanjiang River in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River will be improved. The 660 km channel from Yichang to Chongqing can reach the 10000 ton fleet directly, and the shipping cost will be greatly reduced.

Magnificent landscape

On October 25, 2010, the 175 meter impoundment of the Three Gorges project entered the final sprint stage. By 13:00 on October 25, the water level in the upper reaches of the Three Gorges project had risen to 174.85 meters. With the steady progress of water storage, the landscape of Gaoxia Pinghu Lake has been perfectly presented, and many Chinese and foreign tourists have been attracted to it in recent days.

On October 26, 2010, there are thousands of green waves on the dam and the river under the dam goes to the East. After 47 days of water storage, standing at the head of the right bank of the Three Gorges Dam, the red number of "175 meters" on the right water level gauge is particularly striking. The white walls and green tiles of the ancient dwellings inherit the old simple style, and the busy boats in Maoping port add a bit of modern flavor to this historical ancient city. On the ridge of Fenghuang Mountain in the east of Zigui new County, Quyuan Temple faces the Three Gorges dam across the river, less than 1 km away. Quyuan temple, which was built in the Tang Dynasty, together with zhangfei temple, Baiheliang temple and Shibaozhai village in Chongqing, has become the four separate projects for the relocation and reconstruction of cultural relics in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.
