Stanley Prison
Stanley Prison, located at 99 Tung Tau Wan Road, Stanley, Hong Kong Island, is one of the most heavily fortified prisons in Hong Kong and is managed by the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department.
Historical evolution
During the Japanese occupation period, about 3000 people, including hostile nationals and Hong Kong British officials, were detained in Stanley Prison, St. Stephen's college and other places by the Japanese army.
From the completion of Stanley Prison in 1937 to the execution of the last executed prisoner in the autumn of 1966, all the death sentences in Hong Kong were executed in the prison. Because of the British practice, there is no funeral for death row prisoners. Their bodies will be buried in the cemeteries near Stanley Prison. Their families have no right to take back their bodies for burial, and they can't even worship in the cemeteries. According to the Municipal Services Ordinance, seven years later, the dead bones of the death penalty offenders will be handed over to their families for disposal, while those that have not been disposed of or claimed will be handed over to the then Municipal Services Office for burial at Sha Ling public cemetery in Lo Wu.

Its predecessor was Hong Kong prison, which was established in January 1937. Stanley Prison is famous for accommodating male adult prisoners, with a total capacity of 1714. The prison has been used as a shooting ground for prison express, iron window ruthless and fighting tomorrow again.
