The fossils buried in Guanling fossil group National Geopark of Guizhou Province were formed in the bay environment 220 million years ago (Late Triassic). The main fossil categories include: ichthyosaurs, thalosaurs, gnathodonts and other marine reptile fossils, as well as crinoids, ammonites, bivalves, conodonts, Nautilus, brachiopods, fishes and ancient plant fossils preserved in different places.
Guanling fossil group National Geopark in Guizhou Province has many species, abundant reserves, well preserved and exquisite morphology, which are rare in the same period at home and abroad. It can be called world-class. Moth paleontologists regard Guanling fossil group National Geopark in Guizhou Province as a unique treasure house of marine reptiles and crinoids in the Late Triassic in the world. The Guanling fossil group is of high ornamental, collection and scientific value.
As early as the 1940s, the fossil group of crinoids was discovered in Guanling. Because of its lotus leaf like shape and beautiful body, it has become a treasure in museums and private collections at home and abroad.
Marine reptile fossils have been discovered since 1990s. According to the fossils unearthed at present, the marine animals in Guanling lived about 220-230 million years ago, and the water depth was about 200-500 meters At that time, due to the quiet sedimentary environment, aquatic reptiles, fish, crinoids and a large number of invertebrates were well preserved. After the later geological process and fossilization, the fossil Bank of aquatic reptiles crinoids was formed.
In the 1940s, the WoLonggang area, Xinpu Township, Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County, Guizhou Province, was found with fossils of 220 million yuan ago. Subsequently, Nautilus, thalosaur, pterosaur and other marine reptile fossils were discovered one after another. It is of great significance to study the taxonomic evolution of marine reptiles and crinoids in the Late Triassic.
Features of scenic spots
The crinoid Guanling fossil group, a National Geopark of Guanling fossil group in Guizhou Province, is preserved in black mudstone and shale, and formed in the bay or continental residual basin environment 220 million years ago (Late Triassic). The fossil bearing strata cover an area of 200 square kilometers, and the main fossil categories include a large number of perfectly preserved marine reptiles (ichthyosaur, thalosaur, pterodontosaurus, tortoise), crinoids, ammonites, bivalves, conodonts, Nautilus, brachiopods, fish, shark teeth and ancient plants from nearby land. Such a rich, diverse and well preserved fossil group is extremely rare in the world, which can be called the unique Late Triassic marine reptile and crinoid fossil bank in the world. The fossil group is not only of high ornamental value and collection value, but also of great scientific significance for the study of Late Triassic Stratigraphy, paleontology, paleoecology and paleontology, as well as the classification and evolution of marine reptiles and crinoids.
The paleontological fossils buried in the Guanling fossil group National Geopark, Guizhou Province, were formed in the Bay 220 million years ago. They are a treasure house of rare Triassic paleontological fossils in China. They mainly include ichthyosaurs, thalosaurs, pterosaurs, woodshield odontosaurus and other marine reptiles. There are also a thousand white sea Baihe and other ancient plants preserved in different places, such as ammonite, bivalve, conodont, Nautilus, brachiopod and terrestrial growth Fossils. The Triassic paleontological fossils in Guanling, especially the marine reptile fossils and crinoid fossils, are rare in the same period of the world due to their huge quantity, numerous species, exquisite preservation and peculiar morphology.
Scenic spot value
