Historical evolution
In 1955, Jiangxi Province solicited the design scheme of "August 1 Uprising Memorial Tower" in China.
In 1957, the Jiangxi provincial government officially approved the construction of a memorial tower for the August 1 Uprising to commemorate the Nanchang Uprising. In the same year, the foundation laying ceremony of the memorial tower of the August 1 Uprising was held in Laofushan square. Due to three years of natural disasters in China, the memorial tower has not been built.
In 1976, Jiangxi Province once again put the construction of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising Memorial Tower on the agenda, and solicited design schemes in Jiangxi Province. The "tower and flaggun" scheme designed by wo Zuquan, who worked in Jiangxi Architectural Design Institute, and several other staff members was approved. Together with five other people, wo Zuquan was transferred to the "August 1 Nanchang Uprising Memorial Tower construction headquarters" and stationed in the former site of the Zhude military education regiment to start the final design and integration of the memorial tower. At that time, the tower was built in Laofushan. Later, many experts and citizens pointed out that the location was improper because it was at a traffic intersection. The monument would attract the attention of drivers and pedestrians and affect the traffic. Therefore, the address was changed to people's Square, which was on the central axis of Jiangxi Provincial Museum in the South and the rostrum in the north.
On August 1, 1977, the August 1 Nanchang Uprising Memorial Tower project started construction in the people's Square.
