In 1934, Zeng Sheng joined the Chinese Youth League, a peripheral organization of the Communist Party of China, and began to engage in revolutionary work. In October 1949, he led the Guangdong and Guangdong columns southward to form the Guangdong campaign South Road army and successfully completed the combat mission. From the founding of the people's Republic of China to the "Cultural Revolution", he served successively as the deputy commander of the Guangdong military region and the commander and political commissar of the Pearl River Army, the Secretary of the CPC Pearl River prefectural committee, the first deputy chief of staff of the South China military region, the first deputy commander of the South China Sea fleet of the Navy, the vice governor of Guangdong Province and the mayor of Guangzhou. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of major general. During the "Cultural Revolution", he was framed and persecuted by Lin Biao's counter revolutionary group. After the rehabilitation in 1974, he successively held the posts of vice minister, Minister and adviser of the State Council of the Ministry of communications. He was elected as a member of the Advisory Committee of the CPC Central Committee in 1982. Zeng Sheng is the leader of Dongjiang column of Guangdong People's Anti Japanese guerrillas. Born in 1910 in Pingshan District, Shenzhen. He graduated from Sun Yat sen University in his early years and participated in the patriotic student movement. He was elected chairman of Guangzhou Anti Japanese students' Federation. He joined the Communist Party of China in October 1936. Later, he was the director and Secretary of the Organization Department of the Hong Kong seafarers working committee of the Communist Party of China. He vigorously carried out the Anti Japanese and national salvation movement, which played an important role in promoting the Anti Japanese and national salvation movement in Hong Kong, Macao and Dongjiang region of Guangdong Province.
After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, in October 1938, according to the instructions of the CPC Central Committee, he returned from Hong Kong to Huiyang and served as the Secretary of the Huiyang Baoan Working Committee of the CPC, leading the formation of the Huibao people's Anti Japanese guerrillas. Under the extremely difficult conditions of the strong enemy and the weak enemy, he unswervingly carried out the party's instructions, mobilized the masses, organized the Anti Japanese self defense forces, developed the people's Anti Japanese armed forces, established Anti Japanese base areas, and carried out the people's war. In August 1940, he served as the leader of the third brigade of the Guangdong People's Anti Japanese guerrillas and led his troops to set up an anti Japanese base in Dalingshan District of Dongguan county. In November, the headquarters won the battle in Baihua cave, killing more than 50 people under the Japanese army commander Setai. The head of the Japanese army in Guangzhou lamented: "this is the most humiliating battle since the attack on South China." In December 1943, the Dongjiang column of Guangdong People's Anti Japanese guerrillas was established. He served as commander. Under the attack of the Japanese puppet army and the Kuomintang diehards, he and his political commissar Lin Ping led his troops to fight on both sides of Dongjiang River, then marched into the mountainous areas of northern Guangdong to establish the Dongjiang Anti Japanese base area, and persisted in the arduous and complicated military and political struggle. After the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941, he participated in the organization of escorting the famous democracies, cultural circles and international friends who had left Hong Kong to the rear safe area. During the Anti Japanese War, he made great contributions to the establishment of the Anti Japanese base in South China and the development of the Anti Japanese armed forces in South China.
