Wangjiegang ancient volcano site
Wangjiegang is located at the junction of Zhangcha West Road and Dongping Road, Dafu village, Zhangcha street, Chancheng District, Foshan City, with a height of about 60 meters. It is composed of volcanic eruption basalt, about 52 million years ago. The columnar cleavage of the rock mass is typical and rare. It has important scientific value for studying the geological structure, formation history and paleogeographic environment changes of the Pearl River Delta.
In early September 2015, the wangjiegang Forest Park (phase I) built on the volcanic site was completed and opened to the public free of charge.
Wangjiegang has good geographical conditions. It is adjacent to Dongping River in the West and Fenjiang River in the north. It is located in the mountain and near the water. It has a beautiful environment. The top of the hill is the highest point in the city. You can see the whole city from afar. The scenery is beautiful. It combines with the powerful basalt to form a unique landscape. According to the records of Zhongyi Township in Foshan, Wang Jiegang was listed as a scenic spot in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and was the place where people gathered in Foshan town. In 1982, the people's Congress of Foshan City designated Wang Jiegang as one of the eight new sights in Foshan.
According to the annals of Nanhai County, the mountain "is more than 30 Zhang high. It is the balance of Zhen (Beijiang River) and Yu (Xijiang River). It stands on the Bank of the river, close to Foshan Town, and faces Zidong. It is the guarantee of Tulu, Dajiang, Zhangzuo and Foshan. It is rich around the foot of the mountain. The mountain produces stones like halberds, but the mining is frequent. Tu Yingkun, the imperial historian of the Ming Dynasty, sealed it." it can be seen that the Ming Dynasty has begun to stop digging mountains for stones in wangjiegang . And asked the emperor to seal the mountain for protection. In recent years, archaeologists have excavated the ancient kiln site in wangjiegang, and unearthed relatively complete sauced yellow glazed bowls and other relics. After identification, they are similar to the relics of Tang and Song Dynasties unearthed from damaogang and xiaokuangshi in Shiwan. During the cultural relic survey in 1982, Wang Jiegang was investigated as a primitive social site. Ground stone fragments, coarse pottery pieces with sand and geometric impression pottery pieces were found on the surface of the foothills. It is confirmed that there is a Neolithic mountain site in Wang Jiegang, which is similar to the Xiqiao Mountain site. The cultural relic value of Wang Jiegang is determined again.
