Datang never night city is located at the foot of Dayan Pagoda in Yanta District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It starts from the South Square of Dayan Pagoda in the north, ends at the ruins of Tang city wall in the south, starts from Ci'en East Road in the East and ends at Ci'en West Road in the West. The block is 2100 meters long from north to South and 500 meters wide from east to west, with a total construction area of 650000 square meters.

It has four squares, namely Dayan Pagoda North Square, Xuanzang square, Zhenguan square and chuanglingxin Times Square, four cultural venues, including Xi'an concert hall, Shaanxi Grand Theater, Xi'an Art Museum and Qujiang Pacific Film City, and five cultural sculptures, including Tang Buddhism culture, Tang qunyingpu, Zhenguan rule, Empress Wu xingcong and Kaiyuan Shengshi .

On April 29, 2019, Datang never night city pedestrian street was listed as one of the first 11 pilot pedestrian streets in China.

Evolution of construction

In the late 1990s, Xi'an proposed Qujiang Scenic spot. Zhang Jinqiu, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, planned and designed the layout of "seven gardens, one city and one tower" in the core area of Qujiang. Among them, "one tower" is the big wild goose tower, and "one city" is the big Tang never night city.

At the beginning of December 2008, Datang never night city began to attract investment.

In April 2009, Datang never night city lighting project started.

In May 2009, the landscape Avenue of Datang never night city began to be reconstructed.

On September 26, 2010, Kaiyuan square of Datang never night city opened, marking the completion of the landscape pedestrian street.

In the second half of 2018, according to the general requirements of Chinese characteristics, local characteristics and international standards, and the goal of "one plant, one brick, one tile, one street and one scene" as the top-quality products, the walking street of Datang never night city in Xi'an benchmarked with the standard of national 5A tourist attractions, and comprehensively upgraded the block hardware construction and infrastructure supporting facilities.

On June 26, 2018, Xi'an Qujiang Datang District announced that it would build a pedestrian street integrating culture, commerce and tourism.

In November 2018, 31 provinces, autonomous regions and cities in China submitted 128 key pedestrian streets including Datang never night city to the Ministry of Commerce.

At the end of 2018, on the basis of local recommendation and comprehensive evaluation, the Ministry of Commerce decided to carry out the pilot work of pedestrian street upgrading in 11 pedestrian streets including Datang never night city pedestrian street.

On December 25, 2018, Datang pedestrian street was officially opened.

On the evening of January 29, 2019, the grand opening ceremony of modern Chinatown in Datang never night city, the core area of "the year of Xi'an · the most China" activity, and the unveiling ceremony of national high-grade pedestrian street pilot were held.

On April 29, 2019, the national pedestrian street reconstruction and improvement work site promotion meeting was held in Xi'an. Xi'an, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Nanjing, as the first batch of pilot representatives of 11 high-grade pedestrian streets in China, exchanged and shared the experience and practice of pedestrian street transformation and upgrading.

On February 21, 2020, all outdoor open scenic spots and parks in Xi'an, including Datang never night city, will be open.

Architectural pattern

General layout

In accordance with the general requirements of building a pedestrian street with Chinese characteristics, local characteristics and international level, and with the goal of internationalization, human culture and characteristics, the overall layout of "one axis, two cities, three cores, four districts and five inner streets" of the pedestrian street of Datang never night city has been formed.

The overall layout of Datang never night city is linear, with the connecting line between the South Square of Dayan Pagoda and the ruins of the ancient city wall as the axis. From north to south, there are five landscape areas: commercial pedestrian street, Zhenguan square, Cultural Exchange Square, Celebration Square and the ruins park of the ancient city wall.

According to the spatial order, it can be divided into four morphological regions: starting point, development, climax and ending.

According to the emotional order, it can be divided into five emotional areas: origin, communication, peace, celebration and memory. Throughout the whole square, it is pleasant in scale, easy to retract, regular but not rigid, and implicit in opening.

Functional zoning

According to the overall planning of Datang never night city, the whole planning area is divided into five functional areas. Through the depiction of the five areas, it shows the ecological scenery belt with rich cultural connotation and natural freshness. The five functional areas are: commercial pedestrian street, Zhenguan square, Cultural Exchange Square, Celebration Square and Tang city wall ruins park.

Zhenguan square

Zhenguan Cultural Square is the core part of Tang never night city, which is composed of four groups of cultural and artistic buildings: Xi'an grand theater, Xi'an concert hall, Qujiang Art Museum and Qujiang Pacific studio. The square adopts three-dimensional design, with four sunken squares on the ground floor to organically connect the ground and underground activity places.

In the overall design of Zhenguan Cultural Square, the four main buildings are symmetrical in space with the north-south axis facing the big wild goose pagoda. The cinema and art exhibition hall with similar height of the main space are arranged in the north of the land, and their big roofs are designed as double eaves Xieshan; while the concert hall and the grand theater are arranged in the south of the land, and their big roofs are designed as double eaves veranda.

It shows the Tang Dynasty Group Yingpu sculpture with the theme of Li Shimin, Li Longji, Wu Zetian, Xuanzang and other emperors, historical figures, and heroic stories. Empress Wu xingcong

In the middle of the sculpture landscape pedestrian street is a sculpture of Empress Wu Zetian. This group of sculptures, based on the painting of empress xingcong by Zhang Xuan, a painter of the Tang Dynasty, is connected between Zhenguan square and Kaiyuan square, inheriting the prosperity of Zhenguan square and Kaiyuan square, showing the prosperous atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty.

Tang Dynasty historical and cultural relief column

There are 24 "Tang historical and cultural relief columns" on both sides of Wu Hou Xing's sculpture. They use the form of Dou Gong in Tang Dynasty architecture to show 48 important cultural events in Tang Dynasty, such as Qujiang banquet, silk road, Shangyuan lantern, etc. in the form of relief. The important figures in each event are shown in the form of round sculptures, reflecting the prosperity and complexity of Tang culture Rong.

Zhenguan monument

The landmark sculpture of Tang never night city is composed of Li Shimin's horse riding statue and the surrounding subsidiary sculptures: in the middle, Li Shimin strides over the high headed horse, shakes the reins to rein the horse forward, and is in high spirits; around, 24 person honor guards, 2 person drummers and 3 person generals are closely accompanied. The front of the stele is engraved with four characters of "Zhenguan Zhi", and the back is a list of several hundred characters of Zhenguan dignitaries.
