The Museum of ancient Chinese sexual culture moved from Shanghai to Tongli Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province in April 2004. It officially opened on April 19 and was renamed "Museum of Chinese sexual culture". The reason is that Professor Fei Xiaotong, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, inscribed "Museum of Chinese sexual culture -- the first exhibition in 5000 years".

The indoor exhibition area of the museum is 3800 square meters, and the outdoor garden area is 5200 square meters.

The museum was closed in 2015.

Development history

The Museum of Chinese culture is located in Tongli Town, Wujiang City, Jiangsu Province.

The Museum of Chinese culture was founded in 1995. At that time, Liu Dalin borrowed 300000 yuan to settle the museum in Xujing Town, Qingpu County, Shanghai. However, due to its remoteness, there were few visitors. Until 1999, the museum moved to the pedestrian street near Nanjing Road, Shanghai. Although it is close to the downtown, the museum in the alley is still difficult to attract visitors. Liu Dalin tried to set up signs in the pedestrian street, but did not get approval from the competent authorities. In 2001, the museum was forced to move to Wuding Road, Shanghai, where the rent is low, but the economic problems are still difficult to solve. The museum was relocated to Tongli, Jiangsu Province in 2003 and officially opened to the public on April 18, 2004.

Sociologist Fei Xiaotong wrote the name of the museum and called it "the first exhibition in 5000 years".

architectural composition

Located in the east of Tuisi Garden, a famous tourist attraction in Tongli, the Museum of Chinese sex culture is only a wall away from the garden which is rated as "world cultural heritage". This is the site of Lize girls' school, which was established in 1902. The environment is elegant, the trees are verdant, the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant, and the scenery is pleasant. In order to build the museum, Tongli town invested more than 3 million yuan to build and rebuild houses. Part of the exhibition area is the western architectural style of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and the other part is the typical Jiangnan ancient garden style. After reconstruction, the indoor exhibition area of the Chinese culture museum is 3800 square meters, and the outdoor garden area is 5200 square meters.

Due to the excellent cultural and geographical environment provided by Tongli, the founder and leader of the museum, Professor Liu Dalin and Dr. Hu Hongxia, are determined to make the museum a world-class sex museum and shine on each other with the world-class homesick garden.

Collection

The museum displays more than 2000 pieces of ancient Chinese sexual culture objects, sculptures, pictures, books and so on. Among them, the oldest exhibits are more than 8000 years ago, and more than 20 rare exhibits are more than 5000 years ago. The exhibition includes: sex in primitive society, marriage and women, sex in daily life and sex in special fields. There are also exhibition areas for ancient culture and sex worship, marriage and family and women's oppression, religion and foreign gender culture.

The exhibition content of the ancient Chinese Museum of sexual culture is divided into 10 parts. When the museum was relocated, I felt that these 10 parts were trivial, so I merged them into four parts: 1. Sex in primitive society; 2. Marriage and women; 3. Sex in daily life; 4. Abnormal sexual behavior. There are 1700 pieces of sex cultural relics and ancient sex folk goods on display in the four contents. These sex cultural relics cover the late Neolithic period from 8000 to 9000 years ago to the period of the Republic of China, including the oldest goddess statue, the oldest sex tools, the oldest secret play pottery, the most legendary sex cultural relics and the most beautiful secret play porcelain.

1. Many of the world's sex museums are held by enterprises or private collectors. They are very commercial, and very few are held by famous sexologists. This museum is held by sexologists, and its cultural taste and academic level should be first-class.

2. The exhibits of this museum are selected from 4000 collections, and its quality, especially its antiquity, is beyond the reach of ordinary museums.

3. Large scale and large exhibition area. Foreign sex museums are generally located in buildings, while Tongli museum is located in a big garden. It has built a "stone sculpture garden of sex culture", which places more than 60 large-scale sculptures of sex culture, so that the audience can not only visit indoors, but also visit outdoors and linger, which is rare or unique in the world.
