Chen Cheng (1897-1965) was born in Gaoshi Township, Qingtian. He spent his childhood in Gaoshi and was vice president and President of the Executive Yuan. Now his hometown Gaoshi retains a house where he was born and lived when he was a child, which is a typical traditional folk house in southern Zhejiang. Later, in April 1934, this house was given to Gaoshi primary school as a library, club and office room. In addition, there is a villa in the Shimen cave provincial scenic area, and two brick and wood houses in Xinsi lane of Qingtian County, where Chen Cheng's ex-wife Wu Shunlian lives.
Chen Cheng's former residence
Chen Cheng's former residence is located in waicun village, Gaoshi Township, Qingtian County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province. In 1985, the people's Government of Zhejiang Province provided funds for the renovation. In September 1999, it was announced as the fifth batch of cultural relics protection units in Qingtian County. In 2008, the county Party committee and the county government took the renovation project of Chen Cheng's former residence as one of the 30 projects in the county. According to the principle of "repairing the old as before", the renovation project strengthened the housing institutions, restored the traditional decoration and paint decoration.
Introduction to former residence
After nearly two years of construction, the renovation of Chen Cheng's former residence with a total investment of more than 11 million yuan and a total construction area of more than 10000 square meters has been completed, which has also become an important part of the county's excavation, protection and promotion of Qingtian's "three townships culture", an important supplement to the promotion of the cultural taste of Shimen Cave Scenic Spot, and better drive the development of local tourism.
Gaoshi village is located in the northwest of Qingtian County, where the South Bank of Oujiang River meets the source of Gaoshi. The North Bank of Oujiang River is the national highway 330, which is 25 kilometers away from the county and 1.50 kilometers away from Shimen cave, a provincial scenic spot. Gaoshi village was formed in the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the thirteen capitals. In the Republic of China, it belonged to Gaoshi Township and was the residence of the township government. After 1949, it belongs to Gaoshi township (people's commune), where the Township People's government is located. Gaoshi village is composed of two administrative villages: Wai village and di village. The two villages are bounded by the hillside. Gaoshi has formed a village with a long history. However, Gaoshi village is famous because of the emergence of Chen Cheng, the vice president of the Kuomintang.
Profile
Chen Cheng, also known as shisuo and Dexin, was born in waicun, Gaoshi on December 12, 1898. His ancestors were from Yingchuan County, Henan Province. They moved to Qingtian during the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (1522-1566). His father, Chen Yinglin, graduated from the provincial normal school. He was a teacher and principal of YangZheng primary school in Gaoshi and Jingye primary school (now Renmin primary school). He died in May 1924. His mother, Hong family, was born at chuanliao beach in Qingtian. She lived in Chen Cheng's family for a long time and died in Taipei in 1953. Chen Cheng has been studying in local private schools and primary schools since he was 8 years old. He often goes to work and go to the mountains to cut firewood to help his family. At the age of 16, he studied in the 11th Normal School of Lishui province. He married Wu Shunlian at the age of 21, and joined the army in his hometown Tiye in October of the same year. After that, he went back to his hometown to visit relatives only during the period of his father's death, after his newlywed wife Tan Xiang in January 1932 and in March 1937. After 47 years as an official in the military and political circles of the Kuomintang, he rose to vice president of the Kuomintang. He died in Taipei on March 5, 1965 at the age of 67.
