School history
In March 1981, Mr. Huang Jingqiang, Mr. Hu Baixi and Mr. Wu Yuli obtained the land lease from the Macao government and founded the first modern university in Macao, Macao University of East Asia.
In 1984, the first undergraduate of private East Asian university graduated and awarded the honorary doctorate for the first time.
In 1988, the Macao Portuguese government acquired the University of East Asia through the Macao Foundation and reorganized it.
In 1990, the University changed the three-year program to four-year program.
In 1991, the University of East Asia changed its name to the University of Macao and became a public university.
In 1995, the first master graduated.
In 1997, the first doctoral student graduated, and the undergraduate and master programs were approved by the Ministry of education of Portugal.
In 1999, the University of Macau recommended the first batch of undergraduate students to be directly enrolled in the program and obtained research patents for the first time.
In 2001, the University of Macau reorganized its Council and appointed a full-time chairman.
In 2002, the Macao SAR Government approved the establishment of the "working group on the revision of the constitution of the University of Macao", which officially launched the revision of the constitution of the University of Macao, and stressed that the purpose of the revision is to realize the modernization and internationalization of the University of Macao.
In September 2006, the Macao Legislative Council passed the legal system of the University of Macao, and the chief executive promulgated the new constitution of the University of Macao. According to the constitution, the Council is the highest collegiate organ of the University.
In 2009, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) passed the motion of "the Macao Special Administrative Region shall exercise jurisdiction over the new campus of the University of Macau in Hengqin Island", which approved the construction of the Hengqin campus of the University of Macau in Hengqin Island, Guangdong Province, and authorized the Macao Special Administrative Region to exercise jurisdiction in accordance with the laws of the Macao SAR; on December 20, Hu Jintao, then president of the people's Republic of China, was in Macao Accompanied by the chief executive of the Special Administrative Region, Mr Choi Sai on, he presided over the foundation laying ceremony of the new campus.
On July 20, 2013, the new campus of the University of Macao was officially under the jurisdiction of the laws of Macao SAR; on November 5, the new campus was officially opened.
In August 2014, the University of Macao completed the relocation and officially moved to the new campus in Hengqin Island. The new campus was incorporated into the Taipa area in terms of administrative division, and its legal address is the main road of Taipa University in Macao.
In May 2019, the school of Business Administration of the University of Macau was certified by the association of international business schools (AACSB), becoming the first business school in Macao to be certified by AACSB.
In December 2019, the school of Business Administration of the University of Australia was certified by the association of masters of Business Administration (AMBA).
In March 2020, the University of Macao and the Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences held a signing ceremony to establish the Joint Laboratory of marine environment and engineering.

General courses
In 2013 / 14, the University of Macao opened 464 classes of general education courses, 68 general education courses and a series of lectures on general education enlightenment.
In the 2017 academic year, the University of Australia has launched the "3 + 2" and "4 + X" learning programs.
