Ye Shengtao (1894-1988), 94 years old and named Shaojun, was born in a poor family in Suzhou. After graduating from Suzhou Caoqiao middle school at the age of 18, he began to work as a primary school teacher and engaged in literary creation. From 1917 to 1921, he taught in the fifth primary school of Wuxian County. Since then, he has a close relationship with Luzhi. Ye Shengtao compares Luzhi to the cradle of his own growth It is "the second hometown".
Ye Shengtao Memorial
Ye Shengtao memorial hall is located in Ye Shengtao Park, Luzhi Town, Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, on the west side of Baosheng temple. It was built on the original site of "Wu County No.5 primary school". Ye Shengtao taught here from 1917 to 1922. After his death, several old sites of the original campus were rebuilt and turned into Ye Shengtao Memorial Hall.
Ye Shengtao memorial hall is the school moral education base of Jiangsu Province and the patriotism education base of Jiangsu Province.
In March 2019, the former site of Ye Shengtao's teaching, where Ye Shengtao memorial hall is located, and the tomb of Ye Shengtao were listed as cultural relics protection units in Jiangsu Province.
Historical evolution
Ye Shengtao memorial hall was built in the former site of "the fifth higher primary school of Wu county" where Ye Shengtao taught.
In September 2014, after the renovation of the museum area and surrounding environment, the memorial hall was reopened.
architectural composition
Located on the west side of Baosheng temple, the memorial hall is the former site of wugao where Ye Shengtao taught. Several buildings in the courtyard are renovated school buildings. A two-story building with black tiles and white walls, 4 rooms up and 4 rooms down, is the original five high "women's Department building". Upstairs is the classroom and office, and downstairs is the auditorium and music classroom.
In the middle of the garden is the open four side hall. On the front wall of the four side hall is a "Jinsong" nave, and a couplet on both sides is written in official script: "pines and cypresses have sex, but gardens have no vulgar feelings.".
On one side of the four side hall is Yuanyang hall, which is the dormitories and offices of the teachers in those years. Principal Wu binruo, Ye Shengtao and Wang Boxiang all lived and worked here. There is a row of seven bungalows newly built in the garden, which is the exhibition hall of Ye Shengtao's life story.
Behind the memorial is a garden, and in one corner is the former site of Mr. Ye's farm, which was founded by Mr. Ye at wugao. At the other corner of the garden is the cemetery of Mr. Ye Shengtao. The tomb is built on a spacious stone platform. The tombstone is in the shape of a stone wall and stands high. On the surface of the tombstone is engraved with six gilded characters "Tomb of Mr. Ye Shengtao" inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu. On the corridor in front of the tomb, a new hexagonal "Weiyan Pavilion" was built.

Exhibition display
The exhibition of Ye Shengtao's deeds in the memorial hall is divided into eight parts, including 85 objects, 172 photos and 149 written materials. Among them are the photos of Ye Shengtao with his teachers and classmates when he was studying in Changyuan Wu public primary school in 1907, the photos of Mr. Ye with Shen Yanbing and Zheng Zhenduo when they founded the literature research association in 1921, and the photos of Mr. Ye with Kaiming bookstore and the author in the 1930s. Ye's relics on display include scarves, watches, radios, magnifiers, brushes, Duan inkstones, tea sets, etc.

Ye Shengtao (1894-1988), a famous writer and educator, was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He was admitted to Caoqiao middle school in 1907 and worked as a teacher in a primary school after graduation. In 1914, he was expelled from school and his novels were published in magazines such as Saturday. In the autumn of 1915, he went to Shanggong school attached to Shanghai Commercial Press to teach Chinese, and compiled primary school Chinese textbooks for the commercial press. In 1917, he was employed to teach in the fifth primary school of Luzhi County, Wu County. In 1921, he and Shen Yanbing, Zheng Zhenduo and others organized the "Literary Research Association". He and Xia Mianzun have published reading and writing, Wen Xin and Wen Wen speech. After liberation, he successively served as deputy director of the General Administration of publishing, President of the people's education press, Vice Minister of the Ministry of education, and was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National People's Congress, a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, and chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party.
