Jingzhen octagonal pavilion was built in 1701 to commemorate Sakyamuni Buddha. The octagonal pavilion is of brick and wood structure, 21 meters high and octagonal. It stands beside the former mengjingzhen palace. People call it Jingzhen octagonal pavilion according to its shape and location. The local Dai people call it "posu Jingzhen", which means the crown of lotus, and "posu Jingzhen" means the lotus crown Buddha Pavilion. It is said that the eight corners of the octagonal pavilion represent the eight "Maha halls" (eminent monks) around PA Zhao, and the four doors on the pavilion represent the spread of Buddhism.

Historical evolution
Jingzhen octagonal pavilion, an ancient Chinese Buddhist architecture, is one of the important cultural relics in Xishuangbanna. It is located in Jingzhen village, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 14 kilometers away from the county. Because this pavilion is located in Jingzhen, people usually call it Jingzhen octagonal pavilion. In Dai language, it means the place where religious ceremonies are held.
The Buddhist temple was built in 1063 (1701), the 40th year of Kangxi reign in Qing Dynasty. The octagonal pavilion is a subsidiary building in the temple - "Busu", which is a part of the central Buddhist temple "walazatan" in Jingzhen area.
Folklore
According to legend, the octagonal pavilion was built by Buddhist immigrants in memory of Sakyamuni, who wore the golden silk hat "kazhonghan". In ancient times, it was a meeting booth. On the 15th and 30th of each month in the Dai calendar, in the Buddha Pavilion in Jingzhen area, it was a place to listen to eminent monks and negotiate major religious activities. It was also a place to deal with major daily affairs, and also a place for monks to be promoted to Buddha.
Cultural relics protection
Bajiaoting was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council of the people's Republic of China in 1988.

Layout structure

On the wall, there are 31 reliefs composed of elephants, lions and tigers, which are quite like a group of galleries. The outer wall of the pavilion is inlaid with mirrors and colored glass. The extraordinary light makes the pavilion more magnificent. The pavilion room on the base of the pavilion is 6 meters wide and 2.5 meters high. There are 24 walls in the room, and many patterns are painted on the walls with gold powder.
The top of the pavilion is a multi-storey eaves with tapered and pointed roof, and 12 beams 10 meters long are used to support 10 unique octagonal pavilions, which are covered with flat tiles, such as fish scales. On the corners of the eight pavilions are sculptures of golden rooster, Phoenix and colorful exotic flowers.
At the top of the pavilion is a lotus canopy and a wind Ling. The breeze is passing by, making a pleasant sound. This beautiful Pavilion is hidden under a hundred year old bodhi tree.
Interior decoration of Pavilion
The pavilion is equipped with four doors, East, South, West and North, and the facade is also painted with ethnic patterns. The main gate is arched. Above the arch, there is a niche, offering a bronze Buddha statue. On the two gates made of red toon plate, there are Dai style sunflower and double dragon tail patterns respectively. In front of the door, there is a wooden ladder connected with the stone steps, and on each side stands a lion and a dragon.
The lion opens its teeth and paws, the Dragon shakes its head and tail, and the shape of the dragon and lion is lifelike. The external walls of the pavilions are inlaid with mirrors and stained glass, which make the octagonal pavilion more magnificent. Octagonal pavilion pavilion is octagonal, all the corners are composed of herringbone buildings. There are ten stories in the building, which are in the shape of steps. The smaller the building is, the smaller it is.
The roof is covered with refined fish scale shaped glazed tiles, and the house is equipped with pottery flowers and pagodas elaborately made by Dai artists. Golden Rooster and Phoenix are carved on the corners of the eight pavilions, and colorful exotic flowers are carved between the wind eaves. On the top of the pavilion is an aluminum lotus canopy with a long iron wind chime pole. There are countless wind chimes hanging on the pavilion, and there is a faint sound from time to time.

In the southeast of Bajiao Pavilion is the Liusha river with clear water. In Xishuangbanna, the famous tragedy of Hulu letter of Dai nationality happened here. Hulu letter floating on the water saved the people of Jingzhen, but made the kind-hearted Princess namuhan and her husband Zhaohan buried alive near Bajiao Pavilion. In the west of the pavilion is Jingzhen lake with clear waves. It is said that the Peacock Princess namuno in the narrative poem of zhaoshutun Na, it was in this lake that she met Prince zhaoshutun and left a beautiful story for later generations. At the top of the mountain, about two miles north of the octagonal pavilion, stands a pagoda, opposite the octagonal pavilion.
